At the Joyful Grove of Food Offering, when the Blessed One was dwelling with a large retinue, the son of the gods, Light Increase, asked Manjushri, "What are the works of the demons of the Bodhisattvas?" He said, "Son of the gods, as many works as arise, that much is the work of demons. As much as there is longing, wrong view, and attachment, and as much as there is desire, consciousness, arrogance, and complete discrimination, that much is the work of demons." Furthermore, attachment to the mind of enlightenment and generosity, etc., is also shown as the work of demons, and by teaching the excellent Dharma of the union of skillful means and wisdom, eight thousand sons of the gods generated the mind of unsurpassed enlightenment. Five thousand Bodhisattvas obtained tolerance of the Dharma of non-arising. The Blessed One praised Manjushri, saying, "Well done! Well done!" The son of the gods, Light Increase, asked Manjushri, "Are you pleased that the Tathagata has praised you?" Manjushri replied, "Just as an emanation praises an emanation, because it is empty of inherent existence, there is no attachment." When Manjushri taught such profound Dharma, the son of the gods said, "Manjushri, it is amazing that the evil demon does not come here when such words are spoken, so that the eyes do not have to exert themselves!" No sooner had he spoken those words than the evil demon manifested above in the sky, conjuring up great clouds and making a great roaring sound. The retinue was frightened and wondered, "Whose voice is this?" Then the Blessed One said to Manjushri, "Manjushri, do you see the transformation of the evil demon?" Manjushri replied, "Blessed One, I see it. Sugata, I see it." At that time, Manjushri, having become a youth, bound the evil demon with a firm binding and caused him to fall to the ground. The demon made a sound, saying, "I am bound with a firm binding." Manjushri said, "Evil one, there is another binding that is even firmer than this, which always binds you, but you do not understand it. What is it? It is the binding of the pride of 'I,' perversion, craving, and views. These bind you, but you do not know it." The demon said, "Manjushri, release me, and I will go to my abode." Again, the demon's...

Do not work! Manjushri said: Evil one, if you must do the work of the Buddha, why were you released? The demon said: If I am engaged in obstructing all the Buddha's teachings, how can I do the work of the Buddha? Manjushri said: Evil one, whoever allows the demon to do the work of the Buddha, this is the transformation of the methods and wisdom knowledge of the Bodhisattvas. It is not surprising that the Buddha does the work of the Buddha. It is very surprising that the demon does the work of the Buddha. Then Manjushri At that time, he blessed the demon to have the form of the Buddha, sitting on a lion throne, possessing the majesty of the Buddha. Then the evil demon said: Ask me, you fortunate ones, what you desire, and I will satisfy your minds with prophecies. The great Elder Kashyapa said to the demon: Evil one, what is the bondage of a Bhikshu yogi? The demon said: Venerable Great Kashyapa, enjoying the taste of meditation, and attachment to that quiescence, etc., and considering Nirvana as the essence, considering Samsara as something to be removed, these are the bondages of a yogi. Why is that? Because it is not to remove the seen and practice emptiness, but the emptiness of the seen is emptiness itself. It is not to remove the characteristics and practice the absence of characteristics, but the nature of the characteristics is the absence of characteristics. It is not to remove aspirations and practice the absence of aspirations, but the nature of aspirations is the absence of aspirations. It is not to remove Samsara and practice Nirvana, but the object of Samsara is Nirvana itself. Venerable Great Kashyapa, Nirvana is not acting on all attachments to consciousness, arrogance, and characteristics, it is not from birth, destruction, and exhaustion, but by nature Unborn is Nirvana itself. When this teaching was proclaimed, five hundred Bhikshus were liberated from the defilements without taking. The venerable Subhuti asked those Bhikshus: Fortunate ones, who has tamed you? They said: Who is the one who has attained enlightenment without attainment?
