Then, the thought arose. Five hundred monks, without taking (ordination), had their minds completely liberated from all defilements. Three hundred monks, three thousand nuns, seven thousand laymen, one thousand laywomen, and twenty-seven thousand sons of gods, for these dharmas, obtained the Dharma Eye, free from dust and defilement. Three hundred Bodhisattvas obtained the forbearance of non-arising dharmas. This great thousandfold world also shook in six ways, trembled and quaked. Then, the Venerable Shariputra asked the Blessed One: 'By whose power is this great light pervading this assembly, and the earth shaking, and so forth?' The Blessed One replied: 'There, Manjushri, the youth, together with the son of gods, Prajñamati, in order to fully accomplish the inconceivable Buddha-dharmas of the Tathagata, will ask and be pleased to ask about the Dharma discourse called "Destroying All Mandalas of Mara."' (Shariputra) reported: 'Blessed One, Manjushri, the youth, is not in this assembly.' The Blessed One replied: 'Wait a moment, Manjushri, the youth, having subdued all the mandalas of Mara with great power, will come to where the Tathagata is.' Then, as soon as Manjushri, the youth, entered into the samadhi called "Destroying All Mandalas of Mara," in this great thousandfold world, all the hundreds of thousands of kotis of abodes of Mara became dim. All those evil Maras became old, dull, and weak, walking with great reliance on canes. The daughters of Mara also became old and weak, and their respective palaces became old, collapsed, and fell into darkness. Then, those evil Maras became frightened, terrified, disappointed, and dejected, their hair standing on end, thinking: 'What is the cause and condition that has caused our abodes of Mara to become like this? Will we die and disappear from here, or will we be completely transformed?'

As soon as those demons had such thoughts, Manjushri Kumara immediately manifested hundreds of billions of divine sons and sat in front of those demons, saying: Friends, this one named Manjushri Kumara, the irreversible Bodhisattva, is abiding in the Samadhi called "Destroying All Demon Wheels," and by the power of that Samadhi, you will not be harmed in any way, do not be afraid. As soon as he said this, those evil demons also heard that sound, and also heard the name of Manjushri Kumara, and became even more panicked and frightened, and all the abodes of the demons also shook. Then, those evil demons said to the manifested divine sons: Friends, please save me. The manifested divine sons said: Friends, do not be afraid. You should go now to where the Bhagavan Shakyamuni Buddha is, that Tathagata, with great compassion, bestows fearlessness upon beings who have become frightened. Having said this, they became invisible. Then, those evil demons and their retinue, hundreds of billions of evil demons, aged and infirm, groaning and leaning on canes, went in a moment, a flash, an instant, to where the Tathagata Shakyamuni Buddha was, and having arrived, they prayed in one voice: Bhagavan, please save us from this unsightly form. Sugata, please save us. Bhagavan, proclaiming the names of hundreds of billions of Buddhas is not as manifest as the name of Manjushri Kumara alone. Why is that? Because when we hear the name of Manjushri Kumara, we become fearful, panicked, and frightened, feeling as if we are about to die, as if we are about to disappear. The Bhagavan replied: Evil ones, it is indeed so, just as you have said. Just like this, Manjushri Kumara has completely matured, and has done benefit for sentient beings without discrimination, and will do benefit.

Therefore, even if there were a billion trillion Buddhas, they would not do anything for sentient beings. Just proclaiming the name of Manjushri Kumara, like proclaiming the names of a billion trillion Buddhas, you will not suffer and be destroyed.
