In short, because it does not exist in the ultimate sense, it is called "the establisher of non-existence." Most later generations believe that it exists in the conventional sense, so it is "the establisher of existence," but because it does not exist in the ultimate sense, they say it is "the non-establisher of non-existence." We do not say it in either of these ways, because it exists in name, so it is the establisher of existence in name, but not the establisher of existence in the ultimate sense. Because it does not exist in the ultimate sense, it is the establisher of non-existence in the ultimate sense, but not the establisher of non-existence in name. The non-existence in the ultimate sense and the existence in name, these two, on top of things, appear as a non-contradictory, meaning-identical way of understanding. Therefore, if we say "because it exists in the conventional sense, it will not become existence," then we can never avoid faults. Furthermore, as explained in the Collected Topics and so on, if we are too attached to the mere words of names, for example: a rabbit horn, is a dharma, is existent, because it is measurable. It is so because it is a completely non-existent measurable. The pervasion is established, because the measurable and the established basis of existence are the same. If the completely non-existent measurable is not a rabbit's horn, then the meaning of the word "rabbit horn" is existent, so it cannot be measured as completely non-existent. Therefore, although there are many such elaborations, the necessity is small, so let it be. If we acknowledge existence by measuring in this way, then there must also be a rabbit horn in name, so a non-existent dharma is impossible in the knowable. Therefore, in general, without distinguishing between one's own and others' tenets, merely relying on the clinging to words will not lead anywhere, so we must strive to understand the meaning expressed by words, and not rely on words. Again, in the debate text: However, if there is ultimate truth in the conventional sense, is it the Middle Way that is free from all extremes, or is it not? If it is the former, then sound conceptualization is not an object, because it is free from all extremes. The subject and pervasion are accepted. If you accept that, then it contradicts saying that it is knowable in the conventional sense. If it is not an object, then the distinction between the two truths will not exist, and it contradicts saying that the basis of distinction and the nature of distinction are conventional. Because of these reasons, the Great Middle Way that is free from all extremes does not exist in the conventional sense, and because it does not exist in the ultimate sense either, its establishment and names cannot be described by any means. In the face of the pure mirror of all-illuminating wisdom, even though the appearance of captivating forms is boundless, I abandon here the diligent effort of enduring hardship, with fingers weary on the path of letters. End.

I proclaimed, thus it is said. To that, a good answer was given: The ultimate truth exists in the conventional, and it is the Madhyamaka that is free from all extremes, thus it is promised. Then, that dharma, should not be the object of verbal cognition, because it is free from extremes. If asked thus, the answer is: It is accepted that it is not the object of verbal cognition with an object. All that is said not to be the object of verbal cognition is explained as the meaning of having no object, and since all objects are limited to elimination, therefore it is established that having no object is a complete negation. It has already been said before that the wisdom of having no object is the object. Therefore, since it has not been promised that it is generally not the object of wisdom, there is no need to answer the accusation that it contradicts the statement that the basis of distinction and the distinguishing characteristics of the two truths are conventional. That great Madhyamaka free from extremes, which has no object in any extreme, is called the Dharmadhatu. Because it exists as the Dharmata of all dharmas, therefore the great Madhyamaka free from extremes has no fault of not existing in the conventional, and for that reason, the name ultimate truth is applied. Then, is there verbal cognition that is not an object? The answer is: There is verbal cognition that shows not having an object, such as saying having no object and being free from elaboration. Those names do not show any object in the meaning they show, just as the word without grasping and apprehending does not show grasping and apprehending, and the word without truth does not show true establishment. Its meaning as it is shown is self-cognized by each individual. For understanding the meaning of having no object, there is no object of entry for verbal cognition. For having no object, what does the word say, and what does the wisdom understand? As long as there is saying and distinguishing, it will become having an object. Therefore, although it is said that the object of self-cognition by each individual cannot be directly expressed by words, it has also been said before that it is not impossible to know or understand that suchness by relying on verbal cognition that is well and truly examined according to the scriptures. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the reality by relying on verbal cognition that is well and truly examined with reason according to the meaning shown by the sutras and great treatises. If one clings to any extreme of object, one cannot truly understand emptiness. As it is said in the Sutra of the Wisdom Mudra: Without
