Since there were many refutations from all sides saying that this was distorting the intention of Je Tsongkhapa, the successors of Je should not say that they do not understand the intention of Je Lama, but that others do. What else can be done other than to request, "Then do it that way"? If doing so is the doctrine of the Victorious One and his retinue and the intention of Je Lama, then holding it in that way is protecting the secret treasury of Je Tsongkhapa. Even if others merely become external caretakers, who would know this? Je himself said, "By clinging to dependent arising, which is without inherent existence, like an image, as the ultimate reality and meditating on it, one can draw forth the wisdom of the noble ones, which is free from elaboration and non-conceptual." And the distinction of "for a while" is also meaningful. It is also said that the ultimate reality, which is not a mere name, is the realm of the noble ones alone, etc. Although it is possible to understand this, I will not elaborate on the words of that holy being. It is like selling needles in a blacksmith's house, because there is no need to say it. So, in Je's later works, it is said that if one does not generate certainty about the explicitly stated meaning of the sutras, one should not initially cling to anything at all, and even if one is immersed in a state of not clinging to anything, one cannot thereby realize the ultimate reality. Doesn't it say that one needs to cling to non-truth? Although it is said, we also agree with that. In order to generate certainty about emptiness in the sutra path, one must complete the investigation. If one relies on words that are free from extremes and inexpressible, and does not cling to anything, then because one has not generated certainty about how to be free from the four extremes, one merely remains in the negation of the four extremes. Merely saying that the ultimate reality is not something to be known makes it difficult to generate even a slight certainty about the meaning of the ultimate reality, so merely doing that does not help in realizing the ultimate reality. The 7th Dalai Lama, Klongchen Rabjampa, also said: "Not knowing this principle, emptiness becomes nihilistic. Although one says that words are free from existence and non-existence, etc., not knowing the basis of freedom from extremes is a view of the peak of existence. Therefore, one has become an outsider to this teaching and can smear oneself with the ashes of a mind of space." Therefore, even if one speaks of being free from extremes, one is actually clinging to extremes. Rather than that, it is better to investigate with reason and cling to non-truth.
