Emptiness also exists slightly. If non-emptiness does not exist slightly, how can emptiness exist? The Buddhas have said that emptiness will surely give rise to all views. As it is said, therefore, when showing the meaning of being free from all objects, it is the nature of things that those with objects generate fear, but if the reality of being free from elaboration is not realized, then non-conceptual wisdom will never arise. If it does not arise, then merely abiding in the realm of conceptualization is no better than the state of sentient beings, so there is no way to achieve Buddhahood. Therefore, it is not appropriate to call the single path traveled by the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the three times the teachings of demons or the Ha Shang sect. In many sutras such as the Nirvana Sutra and the Bodhisattva Pitaka, it is said: "Son of good family, at that time, few of my close attendants will truthfully explain the truth, and many will falsely explain it; few will hold to the true Dharma, and many will hold to the false Dharma; few will hold to the Buddha's teachings, and many will hold to the words of demons." Also, at that time, evil monks will abridge this sutra, making many changes in various ways. They will destroy the color, fragrance, and taste of the holy Dharma. Evil ones may read or recite this sutra in this way, but they will eliminate the profound meaning spoken with the intention of the Tathagata, examine meaningless worldly poems, add worldly words, and establish them as errors. As it is widely said, all of us who are born in the degenerate age should remember these things, and we should not speak words that contradict the Tathagata's sutras. As said above, in this way, relying on the methods taught in various ways, when one obtains the forbearance that is in accordance with the nature of the Dharma, which is the pacification of the elaboration of the object of self and non-self, then even if one does not focus on non-self, what fault is there in having to focus on self? Although there is no grasping of non-self, the grasping of self is also completely pacified. It should never be taught that a snake does not exist in name, and that it does not exist again, because the non-existence of a snake will never become non-existent.

If someone asks, is selflessness also the same, never becoming non-existent? If considered from the perspective of conventional truth, it can be thought of that way. However, the imputed meaning of such a conventional term, 'selflessness,' is merely established from the perspective of convention, and it is not necessary to fixate on it as existing in reality. Because, if selflessness were not something fabricated by conceptual thought, it would become truly existent. If that were the case, its essence would become ungraspable, similar to other phenomena, so it is not necessary to fixate on the sphere of activity where the elaboration of grasping and being grasped is pacified. If one does not fixate on the state where all elaboration of grasping and being grasped is pacified, one cannot understand. If one understands by fixating on grasping and being grasped, then one can never abandon the fixation on selflessness. Chandrakirti said: 'Due to the power of cataracts, whatever inverted objects, such as hairs, are conceptually examined, where can one see their essence when the eyes are clear? Having seen that, know that it is the same here.' If one reverses the understanding and thinks that not fixating on any elaboration, not fixating on anything at all, is a wrong view, and that fixating on elaboration and acknowledging it is the correct view, then one is contradicting Chandrakirti's intention and speaking contradictory words, and those who desire liberation will fall into a state of fear. Therefore, if the world is a valid cognition, then what is seen by the people of the world themselves is sufficient, and what need is there for other noble ones? What use is there for the path of the noble ones? A fool cannot be a valid cognition either. Furthermore, at that time, there is no harm from the world. Just as when one awakens, all three are non-existent, so it is the same when one awakens from the sleep of ignorance. And so on, as extensively explained. Like this, how can those who abide in the sphere where the three circles are not fixated upon, and who have attained non-conceptual wisdom, have fixations or elaborations of existence and non-existence? If they do not have the elaboration of grasping at selflessness, how can one prove that they have the elaboration of grasping at self? Because they are free from all grasping and being grasped, who can prove this without realizing the reality of all phenomena? If one examines in conventional terms, they have no grasping whatsoever, so how can it contradict the valid cognition that proves the realization of the non-elaborate nature of reality? Precisely because of this, when determining the ultimate truth in conventional terms, one must acknowledge selflessness.
