Those that are relied upon are not unknown either. Just as the appearance of consciousness arises from emptiness, such as images. Similarly, even if all things are empty, they will arise completely from emptiness. So it is said. Since there is no self-nature in the two truths, they are neither permanent nor annihilated. So it is said. Like this, if it is an appearance of dependent arising, since it abides in the nature of being unborn from the beginning, this way of emptiness appearing as dependent arising not only has no fault of slighting conventional truth, but the establishment of conventional truth is extremely reasonable. As long as other doctrines where the two truths appear separately do not directly realize this inseparability of the two truths, they consider the two to be contradictory, to the point of becoming like not knowing what is emptiness and what is conventional existence. Therefore, in this treatise it is said: Because things arise dependently, these thoughts cannot be examined. Therefore, this reasoning of dependent arising cuts off all nets of wrong views. As it is said, like this, realizing that all appearances that arise dependently are unborn in nature from the beginning, this is form is emptiness. Emptiness is form. Emptiness is also not other than form. Form is also not other than emptiness. Like this, according to the intention of the fourfold combination of emptiness, when realizing the equality of appearance and emptiness, how can there be acceptance of separate tenets of being non-existent in ultimate truth and existent in conventional truth? In the auto-commentary it says: Because it is intended to refute all views that consider existence and non-existence. It also says: Whatever thoughts are inverted, the wise say are the fruit of analysis. It also says: Because all ordinary people who do not understand this nature are bound by thoughts alone, therefore, when this nature is understood, the noble ones will be liberated. Therefore, the teacher establishes the cessation of all thoughts as the fruit of analysis spoken of in the Madhyamaka treatises. It also says: The fruit of analysis in the treatises is that by stopping all the nets of thoughts, it is intended to accomplish ultimate wisdom. It also says: The wise understand emptiness and will be liberated.

Thus it is said. Also in the Madhyamaka treatise, it is said: "Those of inferior intellect who view things as either existing or not existing, they cannot see the peace of near quiescence." Thus it is said. If others think that since the nature of all phenomena is established as the union of the two truths, free from elaboration, then dividing them into two truths is meaningless, then, in terms of the ultimate meaning, although all phenomena do not go beyond the nature of the union of the two truths, the sphere of reality, for those who have not yet realized it as it is, it is necessary to divide them into two truths, as non-existent in the ultimate sense and existent in the conventional sense, and ultimately establish the inseparability of the two truths. In terms of the nature of reality, there is no division into two truths, as the sutra says: "If the sphere of reality itself is taken as the measure, then there is neither conventional nor ultimate." If it is accepted as such, then all phenomena become equal in the sphere of reality, free from elaboration. There is no phenomenon other than the sphere of reality. As it is said in the Bodhisattva Pitaka: "Furthermore, truth is one, not two, namely, the truth of cessation." Thus it is said. Therefore, in the self-commentary, since there is no birth in the ultimate sense, it is necessary to refute birth from self and other. However, the nature of form, feeling, etc., which are the objects of perception by direct perception and inference, will undoubtedly arise from others. If this is not desired, then why speak of two truths, it will become one truth. Why? Because there is no birth from others. This should be explained: This is true, but in the ultimate sense there are no two truths. Monks, this supreme truth is one, namely, the non-deceptive nature of reality, Nirvana. All conditioned things are false, deceptive in nature. As it is said, the sphere of reality is inherently Nirvana, peaceful, free from elaboration, without birth or death, the very limit of reality, this is the only true truth, the ultimate nature of all phenomena, and there is no other truth. As it is said: "Nirvana is the only true truth, the victorious ones."
