It is said that there is no birth in the ultimate sense. Adding the word "special" is meaningless. Therefore, this extreme clinging to the idea that things arise from themselves is unreasonable both ultimately and conventionally. Regarding this, it is said in the self-commentary: Therefore, the teacher did not particularly emphasize, but generally negated arising from self, that is, negated birth. If it is said that things do not arise from themselves in the ultimate sense, because they exist, like sentient beings, then this distinction of "in the ultimate sense" is meaningless, and it should be understood in this way. As it is said. Thus, by analyzing through the four extremes, it is determined that there is no birth not only in the ultimate sense, but also in the conventional sense. Through this reasoning, these infallible appearances of dependent arising are determined from the beginning to be of the nature of no birth and no cessation. Therefore, it transcends mere nominal non-self-existence and reveals the non-nominal ultimate, the inseparability of the two truths, the very essence of the dharmadhatu free from elaboration. Furthermore, this treatise shows the key point of the inseparability of the two truths: if there is something called "birth" in the conventional sense that is not refuted by ultimate analysis, then it would follow that ultimate birth cannot be refuted; it would follow that conventional truth can be analyzed by reason; and it would follow that the samadhi of the noble ones would become the cause of the destruction of things. This shows three faults. These reasonings show the meaning of being unborn from the beginning. If there is no birth even in the conventional sense, wouldn't it become a slander of the conventional? In the self-commentary it says: If, like this, all clinging to things is completely cut off, those who, out of fear, say that the real nature, which is the cause of all afflictions and purification in conventional truth, must be made to arise, then for them, only some words remain. As it is said, not even a little bit of birth can be proven in either of the two truths. Again, in the self-commentary it says: Then, if there is no birth existing by its own nature in either of the two truths, then how will their own nature be recognized in the world? The answer is: Things are empty, like images and so on. Gathering
