Here, we did not become so angry merely because of commenting on the connection and the power of words of the root texts, saying that they are baseless and untimely. We have self-awareness, and this, that our own thoughts are not hidden from ourselves, can ascertain it. If one is deeply angry and speaks angry words, one's own faults will be revealed. Those who speak of reason mainly use rational analysis to express themselves well, and do not speak angry words, because protecting the minds of others and speaking is a wise way. Who among the wise would be angry merely because someone said something that disagrees with their own system? Even in the works of great teachers such as Dharmakirti, Chandrakirti, and Vasubandhu, one sees refutations. Some followers of Rinchen Jungne Zhap said, "Chandrakirti and others are hammers that destroy evil conceptualizations," and so on. And some who hold the Prasangika system have stated "Dharmakirti and his followers" as a prior position, and Abhaya prohibited "Shantarakshita and his followers," and so on. There are many such instances even in the great treatises of China. It goes without saying that there are such instances in Tibet as well. All of you sectarians also directly scold, saying that all the views of the early Tibetans are the views of Heshang, are annihilationist views, are not the Buddha's teachings, and are not the path to liberation, but here I have not seen anyone become red-eyed, stamping their feet, and speaking angry words. Since the ways of thinking of beings are diverse and cannot be blocked, who would be angry at these thoughts? Being angry is meaningless. Why is that? If others express refutations through reasoning, and this actually causes harm, one should not be angry. Dharmakirti, the lord of reason, said in the Pramanavarttika, "Whether the reason is stated or not, if there is contradiction, what does the debater do here? Because he spoke wrongly, that is not the source of harm to the treatise. If you say that it is a fault because harm was spoken, if it was not spoken, then what? Is it not harm? It should not be done. It is not, why is it faulty?" As it is certain as it was said. If one can refute what others have said through reasoning, that will only cause the other party to be ashamed, and it will instead become an ornament that makes one's own system more pure.

If one cannot be harmed by the transformation (of anger), then there is no reason to generate anger. As it is said, "The arguments and faults of the opponents, when they meet you, will be destroyed." Therefore, we will gather the fully assembled Sangha of the four directions without hesitation and grant permission for madness to the one who speaks first. Although it is said, there is no great good or bad in mere verbal arguments, so why should there be hesitation? However, for that reason, there is no need for the labor of gathering the Sangha of the directions, etc. To one who speaks properly without madness, giving permission for madness as a pretext is actually giving permission for madness to oneself. Even so, it should be examined as if it were a figure of speech of denial. What is said, etc., will surely become hasty like a figure of speech of denial. To say that the opponent does not have the widely known affliction of craving, separating "this craving" and saying that even if it is not the affliction you think it is, it is like the delusion of all, in order to show the example widely known to the opponent. Here, it shows a craving that the opponent would say does not exist, and the craving referred to by the near-pointing word "this" also shows that it is an affliction according to his idea. Therefore, one must be proficient in the subtle and coarse afflictions of the two ways, as well as the main and secondary things said, the real and clinging things said, the speaker, the exclusion of other situations, etc. So, what is the meaning of this? Separating "this craving" and saying that even if it is not the affliction spoken of from the Abhidharma according to your idea, it is like the example widely known to the opponent, the delusion of all. If the craving led by subtle self-grasping does not exist, then there is no difference from what was said before, it is just a matter of paying the difference. Again, it is said that the craving referred to by the near-pointing word "this craving" also shows that it is an affliction according to the opponent's idea. Saying that according to the opponent's idea, it is both an affliction and not an affliction, this is like a die, if it is not a missing word, then it is truly a wonderful word of denial. In general, for what is said, there are the main and secondary, and the four sentences of the real and clinging things said and the speaker of sound, and the distinction of excluding other situations of the distinction of sound and meaning, although it is true that one must understand and then explain, but this is true.
