The waves of anger surge and swell, the objects of enticement sway redly in all directions, and they emit cries of lamentation while stamping their feet to the beat. We, without any restraint, are possessed by this unbearable demon of wrath. According to the teachings of the Bhagavan, we have gathered the complete sangha of all denominations and are striving to bestow the boon of madness. Even so, it should be examined as if it were an ornament of denial. When the other party says that they do not have the affliction of craving, one should specifically point out "this craving," even if it is not the affliction that you think it is, and like universal ignorance, point out the example that is known to the other party. Here, it points out the craving that the other party says does not exist, and the craving indicated by the demonstrative pronoun "this" also shows that it is not the affliction as he thinks it is, so it is said that one needs to be skilled in distinguishing between subtle and coarse afflictions. It is said that direct and indirect expressions, including major and minor, are well-known throughout the text, and direct and clinging expressions are accomplished through excluding other things, etc. Moreover, the word "also" summarizes the meaning of both the preceding and following examples, and the explanation is as previously stated. Alternatively, if one says, "Craving is not an affliction," then it is established. Therefore, the word "also" tends to divide both the example and the meaning into two. If there is a case where craving is not an affliction, then pride should also be admitted in the same way. The noble one said, "The first, eighth, and ninth are afflictions." And, "There is no arising without craving." The Commentary on Valid Cognition also says, "Having completely transcended the craving for existence." Although it has been said in this way, do not conform to either the Chinese or Tibetan sides, but enjoy the instructions of the non-Chinese, non-Tibetan Pishacha, and make the practice the essence of all sessions and intervals. The two Hearer schools do not want the eighth craving to be a factor that nourishes karma, as mentioned above, and mention the fundamental appropriation, and the Vaibhashikas also say that craving is the root of samsara, so there are many things to be studied, but it is temporarily set aside. Here, since it is the time to realize emptiness, it is relevant to examine its opposite—afflictions—and the way in which karma accumulated by their power and the resulting birth and existence arise. For such karma as that of Maudgalyayana, craving is also not necessary.

Because according to you, even without desire, it is acceptable, which is what should be answered. When analyzing based on the limbs of the all-afflictive aspect, suddenly mixing it with the limbs of the obscuration of knowledge, for the Hearers and Solitary Realizers to attain enlightenment, it is necessary to directly realize emptiness. The latter half of the scripture that speaks of this forcibly extracts the manner of needing to completely realize emptiness. Combining this with that clearly shows the state of wandering far from both sound and meaning. After saying this, the response is: In the root verse, "This desire is not of an afflicted nature," even if explained literally, it still expresses the meaning. Because there is no need to add other distinctions to distort the explanation, even if it is not necessary to add words, but in general, because an explanation is being made, who would make a law against adding words to the root text to explain it? If words are not added, the root itself is sufficient, so what is the use of the explanation? In the manner of adding words, if something is added that the root itself does not express, either literally or implicitly, even if there is no law, it can still serve as a basis for examining the intention of the scripture's author. Adding "This desire in the continuum of an Arhat, although not an afflicted nature produced by self-grasping," is because the root verse said "not of an afflicted nature." In order to understand that "afflicted nature" refers to being produced by self-grasping, the words are added in this way, but it does not go beyond the meaning of the scripture's root verse "not of an afflicted nature." Therefore, the explanation has not become a way of erasing the root verse. Therefore, there is no place covered by evil darkness. Even if Arhats are specifically designated, if it is shown that the desire in their continuum is not of an afflicted nature, then the desire in the continuum of those who have not attained such realization will naturally become of an afflicted nature. How could a desire not produced by self-grasping arise? Because the root of affliction is self-grasping, this is merely refutation. Therefore, the statement "Thus, there is no contradiction" has become powerless. Moreover, still losing shame, saying that desire is not of an afflicted nature, etc., until "There is no place and no opportunity," etc., revealing an angry expression from the depths of the heart, glaring with red eyes, stomping feet, etc. It is like the worldly saying "judging others by oneself." If someone openly expresses angry words scolding others, then one can infer the angry expression from that sign.
