Because one wants afflictions that do not have the cause of grasping at self. If so, Chandrakirti said, "All the faults of afflictions arise from the view of the aggregates, because they are seen in the mind as arising from views." And in the auto-commentary to the Entering Path, "For the sake of the hearers abandoning the obscuration of afflictions, the selflessness of the person is taught." And so on are contradictory to what was said. Furthermore, when the opponent says that they do not want craving caused by the view of the aggregates, it is like a bad weapon turning on oneself, making unfounded statements, and not seeing the detailed explanation of the Treasury, saying nonsense is meaningless nonsense that you yourself have said. Because one wants there to be no craving caused by the view of the aggregates in the continuum that has abandoned all the afflictions as explained in the Abhidharma, why is there no refutation? Afflictions that are both the cause and the effect of the view of the aggregates are explained, and "all the afflictions of one's own ground." And "from ignorance comes doubt, from that comes wrong view, from that comes the view of the aggregates." Even if the order is explained in this way, according to your intention, those afflictions that have become the cause of the view of the aggregates are established as not being abandoned by abandoning the view of the aggregates. If the cause is not abandoned, then the effect, the view of the aggregates, will not be reversed. Even if one sees the subtle selflessness of the person, the afflictions will not be reversed, so one's own division of coarse and subtle selflessness will become meaningless. Even for those who focus on the three spheres, there are very many instances in the sutras and treatises where they are referred to by the name of afflictions. However, in this case, it is a time to examine whether the afflictions that have become one of the two obscurations established from the aspect of hindering liberation are reversed or not. Who has accepted that one needs to become a Buddha in order to attain mere liberation? Where does one shoot an arrow without a target? We believe that by merely familiarizing oneself with the path of realizing the subtle selflessness of the person, one can attain an arhat who has abandoned all afflictions. As it is said in the Root Verses, "When self and what belongs to self are exhausted, internally and externally, appropriation will cease, and when that is exhausted, birth will be exhausted. When karma and afflictions are exhausted, that is called liberation." It is necessary to become a Buddha in order to attain ultimate liberation, as it is said in the Sublime Continuum, "Therefore, without attaining Buddhahood, there is no nirvana."
