If one thinks that it is like a sword not cutting itself, although it is so, but for example, regarding the consciousness that apprehends blue and the blue itself, whether there is an interval or no interval, or how the order is, no matter what, it is impossible for it to apprehend it, but these investigations will become an investigation of the ultimate truth, just as in worldly conventions, the consciousness that experiences blue will not completely disappear. For self-awareness, although there are no three things of agent, object, and action, as soon as one's own mind arises, it will not become hidden, but arises as the nature of experiencing clarity and awareness, this is called self-awareness, and this exists in worldly conventions, in conventions, one's own mind in one's own continuum actually knows or does not know, if one determines one of the two, if one thinks that one does not know, then one has no choice but to admit that one's own mind is hidden from oneself. Therefore, the venerable Dharmakirti said, "The mind has no other object of experience, nor does its experience have another, since there is no grasper and grasped, therefore it is clear in its own nature." And in the Ornament of the Middle Way it says, "Consciousness from the nature of matter, the reversal is extremely born as consciousness, what is the nature of non-matter, this is the knowledge of self-nature here. The nature of oneness and indivisibility, because the three natures are not reasonable, therefore, self-knowledge is not actually, the object of agent and action." As it is said. Therefore, although it is not necessary to newly add one's own action, but in the way of one's own clear nature, knowing without oneself becoming one's own hidden, the name of self-awareness can be used harmlessly, just as for directly knowing a vase, the name of object-consciousness can be used. For any mind that arises in one's own continuum, one directly knows oneself, why can't the name of self-consciousness be used? Therefore, only self-awareness is harmless and infallible in the world, but if one seeks the imputed meaning of how it knows itself, then apart from the unexamined worldly convention, nothing can be truly established. However, without the investigation of whether the ultimate truth is established or not, under the control of the worldly mind that establishes names according to how it appears, because oneself arises as the nature of clear awareness, it is called self-awareness, and because there is no substance of agent, object, and action for it, it is called the name of self, and there are the three things of agent, object, and action that the mind imputes to it.

The terminology of earth knowledge is certainly permissible, like this, experiencing pleasure and pain is the object of experience, that experiencer is the mind, and the act of that mind actually experiencing pleasure and pain, these three exist as the basis in the treatises of any sect. However, for the mind that is experiencing pleasure and so on, there exists a grasping mind that is different in substance from the experienced pleasure and so on, and there exists an object to be grasped, pleasure and so on, that is different from that mind, which is difficult for anyone to acknowledge. If there exists an independent mind that is different from experiencing pleasure and so on, then it would become a mind without sensation; if there exists an experienced pleasure and so on that is different from the self-grasping mind, then it would become a sensation without knowledge, just as the Samkhya and Vaisheshika schools believe that pleasure and so on are external and internal matter. Thus, although pleasure and so on and experiencing them are not other, the existence of knowledge in the manner of directly experiencing pleasure and pain is commonly known among the proponents of various schools and ordinary people, and is established by direct perception. So, how is it unreasonable to call it self-awareness? If you do not acknowledge this, are you saying that there is no actual experience of pleasure and so on? Or do you acknowledge that there is experience, but it is experienced by other-awareness? Please consider this. Similarly, for any and all knowledge, when I think, "I clearly know this and this kind of thing," the appearance of what is to be known is named from the perspective of being an action or an object; when thinking about who knows, thinking, "My own mind knows," this is the perspective from which the term agent-subject applies; by it, clearly knowing and experiencing in a non-dual way is the perspective of action. Like this, how could worldly knowledge exist without the separation of knowledge and object of knowledge that can be established? And who could say that such knowledge exists? Please consider this. Also, if one thinks about the mind in dreams and the appearance of dizziness, and in concepts, in which a general meaning also appears like a blue appearance, although it appears in the three ways of appearing blue, grasping it, and it knowing it, thus dividing them into object-appearance, subject-appearance, and self-awareness respectively, in reality these three cannot be other, because it is merely that knowledge itself appears in the form of blue, just as it is established as self-awareness. If one does not understand it in this way, coarse minds will turn inward, how will the mind itself
