It is said that "in order to attain the omniscient knowledge that has abandoned the two obscurations, both selflessnesses are taught," which shows that the Hearers and Solitary Realizers do not realize the selflessness of all phenomena, and that if they fully realize the selflessness of phenomena, it also shows that they abandon the obscuration of knowledge. If it is not the case that if all knowable things are not realized as emptiness, then it is not possible to abandon the afflictive obscurations, then it would not be appropriate to say that the selflessness of persons is taught to the Hearers and Solitary Realizers in order to abandon the afflictive obscurations, but it would be appropriate to say that the selflessness of phenomena is also taught to them. If the realization of the selflessness of phenomena is not the antidote to the obscuration of knowledge, then why would it be specially separated and taught in the case of Bodhisattvas? It is meaningless to say that these two selflessnesses have differences in terms of completeness and incompleteness, and that they are taught separately. If you think that this is just conforming to the common Lesser Vehicle, that is not correct. Even so, how can you explain that you previously said that the Hearers and Solitary Realizers have realized emptiness? Because it is said after cutting off this doubt, it is very clear in one's own system. So how should it be known? The intention of Chandrakirti himself has clearly explained that the Hearers and Solitary Realizers do have the realization of emptiness that is merely the emptiness of this dependent arising, but their practice of the selflessness of phenomena is not complete, and the selflessness of persons is complete as a method for abandoning the afflictions that pervade the three realms. This makes it clear that there is no doubt about Chandrakirti's view regarding the certainty as mentioned above. Therefore, although various methods of explaining the meaning of the scriptures have appeared, whether or not the meaning has been understood depends on the evidence of the scriptures and reasoning, and nothing will change by merely relying on the words of one's own wishes. This principle is also clearly stated in the Sutras. In the Lankavatara Sutra, it says: 'Furthermore, Great Wisdom, all Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, because they have not abandoned the obscuration of knowledge and the habitual tendencies of actions, have not realized the selflessness of phenomena, and have not obtained the inconceivable death, so the three vehicles are taught to the Hearers, not one vehicle. Great Wisdom, when those have abandoned all the habitual tendencies of faults, and have realized the selflessness of phenomena, then they'

Having gotten rid of the fault of attachment and without being intoxicated by samadhi, having exhausted again from the realm of the uncontaminated, and again completely generating all the dharmas belonging to the realm of the uncontaminated, both mundane and supramundane, one will become empowered over the inconceivable Dharmakaya. It is also said: Understanding the selflessness of phenomena and persons, completely knowing and comprehending the two obscurations, being separated from the two kinds of death and transference, because of abandoning the two afflictions, therefore the great wisdom Buddhas, the Bhagavat, are truly enlightened. Great wisdom, because of comprehending these dharmas, the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas are also enlightened. Therefore, for that reason, great wisdom is taught as the One Vehicle. Also, in the Sutra of Dense Array of Jewels, it says: The wise, with selflessness of phenomena, attain the place of the Buddhas and the Buddha's sons, the Sugatas, manifest enlightenment and teach the Dharma. If one can well distinguish and see the selflessness of aggregates and persons, and without destroying the reality of phenomena, then those Shravakas will attain manifest realization. So it is said. If someone thinks like this, the difference between whether the understanding of the selflessness of phenomena is complete or not is not as you wish. Although the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas have the completeness of the wisdom that understands the unreal, they do not understand the unreal through the door of infinite kinds of reasoning, but the Mahayana practitioners have it, therefore, that is the difference that the wisdom becomes extremely vast towards Suchness, haven't you said that? Generally speaking, in the stage of faith and practice where the unreal is not directly seen, if one can well establish Suchness through various kinds of reasoning, then the ability of wisdom is very good, but these reasonings are the methods or ways to generate certainty about the unreal. Once a thorough certainty is obtained through any kind of reasoning, then even if one examines from many different doors of reasoning, it is impossible to generate a different realization from before for the object to be realized, because the Sutra of Pramana says: Repeatedly knowing is also not there, endless transformation like memory and so on. As it is said, if from the opposite side of an object to be realized, different things are repeatedly known through many pramanas, then even an object to be realized can be well measured by pramana.
