Their respective records can be known, therefore this must be highly cherished. Thus, the reasoning of the noble father and son, even the Hearers and Solitary Realizers see the emptiness that is established in dependence. If they do not understand the emptiness of things established in dependence, which are not established by their own nature, then there is no way to realize the selflessness of persons, and if there is no realization of the selflessness of persons, then there is no liberation from samsara. In this way, the meaning of the scriptures that say that the enlightenment of the three vehicles also arises from the realization of emptiness can be well understood. The Hearers and Solitary Realizers realize the subtle selflessness of persons, and the phenomena that are considered to exist conventionally in their own systems, they only realize the coarse selflessness, but they do not completely perfect the realization of the selflessness of phenomena, because they do not know that all the phenomena that are considered to exist ultimately in their own systems, such as the two partless ones, are without inherent existence. If one wants to create the realization of the Great Vehicle that perfects the sixteen emptinesses, it will be like the water of the ocean and the water in the footprint of an ox. Therefore, it is said: This selflessness is for the sake of liberating beings, It is taught as two by distinguishing phenomena and persons. And it is also said: The emptiness with elaborations, Having taught sixteen, then summarized, Again taught as four, These are also accepted in the Great Vehicle. The Hearers and Solitary Realizers only have this much of the cause, or only have the realization of the emptiness that arises in dependence, but their emptiness is only abbreviated, etc., is widely taught. It is said that the difference between the perfection and imperfection of the realization of emptiness is the basis for knowing the closeness and distance to the Mother of the Result, and it should be known that this intention has become one. Like this, form is like a mass of foam, feeling is like a bubble in water. In this way, the aggregates that appear coarsely with the nature of multiplicity and impermanence are shown as illusions, and this is considered to be the abbreviated or coarse view of the selflessness of phenomena in the Hearer's system. Why is it called abbreviated? Because for the realization of the selflessness of persons, this much is indispensable, therefore the selflessness of phenomena, which is the aggregation of aggregates, etc., without inherent existence, is abbreviated or only shows one aspect. If this is well determined, then the great chariots that rely on the instructions of Maitreya and Manjushri

Therefore, in order to be able to understand without doubt the extremely important point that the views of all the masters are in agreement, I will use my own intelligence to clearly distinguish and explain it. Therefore, the quotations from the commentary on the "Sixty Stanzas of Reasoning" that you cited earlier, as well as many other similar quotations, should also be understood as explained here. If one does not understand that any of the phenomena, such as the aggregates, which exist merely conventionally, are not truly existent, but only clings to them as truly existent, then there is no way to reverse attachment and other afflictions, and one will never be able to realize the selflessness of persons. Therefore, in all paths to liberation, there is none that does not arise from the realization of emptiness, which is proven by scripture and reasoning. However, the difference between whether the realization of emptiness is complete or incomplete causes the philosophical tenets to be high or low. Otherwise, the distinction between high and low philosophical tenets, as well as the differences in abandonment and realization that come with it, would not be reasonable. Regarding what is to be abandoned and how to abandon it, in general, the two obscurations are what is to be abandoned, and their antidote is the wisdom of realization. These two, like light and darkness, cannot coexist. When the antidote arises, the corresponding object to be abandoned will disappear, and eventually even the subtle seed of what is to be abandoned will be exhausted. This is the view generally accepted by Buddhist Mahayana practitioners. Regarding the abandonment of the obscuration of afflictions through the realization of the selflessness of persons, and the abandonment of the obscuration of knowledge through the realization of the selflessness of phenomena, there is no difference in the views from the Mind-Only school to the Consequentialist school. There are only slight differences in the way they are expressed, but there is no difference in meaning. Therefore, it can be said that all schools agree on the key points of the path. That is to say, no matter what is to be abandoned, it is not possible to abandon the innate clinging without first abandoning its imputed clinging. For innate clinging, one must also abandon it from the gross to the subtle, together with its seeds, and eventually even the extremely subtle habitual tendencies, like sesame seeds covered with the fragrance of flowers, must be completely abandoned. Therefore, it is true that one cannot abandon the habitual tendencies of the clinging to true existence without abandoning the manifest clinging to true existence together with its seeds. However, it is unreasonable to say that one cannot abandon the obscuration of knowledge at all until one reaches the point of abandoning the habitual tendencies, as mentioned slightly earlier. Enough with too much elaboration, I will not elaborate for now. Therefore, in the auto-commentary of the "Entering the Middle Way", it says: "In order for the Hearers and Solitary Realizers to abandon the obscuration of afflictions, the selflessness of persons is taught; in order for the Bodhisattvas to abandon
