Liberation comes from exhaustion. As it is said. Furthermore, even if the co-emergent self-grasping is exhausted and the dependent origination of samsara ceases, the dependent origination from death to old age from the level of ignorance's habitual tendencies is inconceivable and will not cease until Buddhahood is attained, as stated in the scriptures. Therefore, the remaining limbs arise from ignorance, and the root of all obscurations is generated by ignorance. Its antidote is the wisdom that realizes emptiness, as stated in the latter part of the previous scripture: From actions and afflictions, conceptual thoughts, those elaborations arise from elaborations, they will cease by emptiness. As it is said. Also, in the Four Hundred Stanzas: Just as the body is at ease in the body, so is delusion in all. And so on, it is said that destroying delusion destroys all afflictions. It is also said that to reverse that ignorance, one must see dependent origination. It is also said that the meaning of dependent origination is emptiness of inherent existence. Also, in the Sixty Stanzas of Reasoning: Having found any place, the afflictive serpent, the cunning one, will seize it, but the mind of one who has no place will not be seized by them. And so on, it is said in the scriptures that grasping at things as true is an affliction. If you think that it is true that the name of affliction is applied to the grasping of reality, then it is undeniable that the name of affliction is applied to all ignorance, and from all sutras and treatises, ignorance that does not know the suchness of things is named affliction, which appears again and again. If, by that alone, it is considered to be an afflictive obscuration that separates the two obscurations of affliction and knowledge, then in many sutras such as the Garland of Jewels Sutra quoted above, the name of affliction is also used to indicate the level of ignorance's habitual tendencies. And in general, the name of affliction is applied to all ignorance and inverted conceptualizations, and if such combinations are immeasurable, then all of them must be only afflictive obscurations, so the obscuration of knowledge will be completely non-existent. Therefore, in the great treatises of the Prasangika school, there is no basis for clearly stating that grasping at reality is an afflictive obscuration and not an obscuration of knowledge, and nothing can be accomplished by mere verbal contortions. If it can be accomplished, then it seems permissible to say that there are scriptures in the Svatantrika school that also hold this view.

From the Ornament of Madhyamaka, it says, "The wise are those who are selfless in phenomena, by familiarizing themselves with the absence of inherent existence, they abandon the afflictions arising from perverted views without effort." It should be known that such statements also appear in the treatises of the Svatantrika school. Therefore, it should be understood that, as exemplified by what is said here, although there are many such statements, they alone do not establish the opponent's intention. For example, it is said that there are immeasurable afflictions that obscure the qualities of omniscience, such as the ten powers and four fearlessnesses of the Tathagata. In general, all afflictions also obscure the activity of omniscience, but if one were to establish that every affliction is a cognitive obscuration based on such a statement, it would not be valid. Therefore, these two obscurations are established from the perspective of their being the primary obstacles to liberation and omniscience: the afflictions arising from the view of the perishable are the afflictive obscurations, and the afflictions arising from the conceptualization of the three spheres are the cognitive obscurations. In general, afflictions such as attachment are not without obstructing the complete understanding of all knowable objects, and the conceptualization of the three spheres does not fail to benefit the afflictions that accomplish rebirth in samsara as long as there is self-grasping, but still, they are established as two obscurations from the main aspect. If the root of samsara, the innate view of the perishable, is reversed, then all the afflictions arising from it that accomplish samsara will definitely be reversed, so even if liberation is attained, one cannot eliminate the obscurations that transform into omniscience by that alone, and when innate self-grasping is abandoned, even if there is conceptualization of the three spheres, afflictions will not arise from that alone, because the conditions are not complete. Therefore, if we were to offer a slight response to the above throwing of faults: if it is a person who has abandoned both self-graspings, including their seeds, then it does not necessarily follow that they have abandoned the cognitive obscurations, because that is what you assert. If you assert that, then the wisdom dharma that directly realizes both selflessnesses, with you and the cognitive obscurations in the manner of abandoning enemies, it does not necessarily follow that there is no contradiction in coexisting in the same continuum, because you and all the cognitive obscurations in the continuum of one person, it is possible to coexist for countless eons and so on. The reason is established, namely
