If the Bhumisamgraha school acknowledges that the belief in the reality of phenomena is a klesha-avarana, then such refutations should be applied. However, in the view of the early Prasangika masters, any belief in the self of phenomena or belief in reality that is divided into two types of self-grasping is never considered to be solely a klesha-avarana, which is one of the two types of obscurations, because of this reason. To this, the refuter says: It must be acknowledged in any case, because it is established by reason and scripture. If it is said like that, how it is not established by reason will be explained below. Here, let us examine a little the aspect of scripture that the opponent considers to be the basis of establishment. Master Aryadeva said, "The Blessed One, seeing beings afflicted by suffering, composed the Root Wisdom Treatise in order to show things as they are in order to liberate them." It is also said that attachment and aversion arise from conceiving of things as having inherent existence, and that understanding dependent origination dispels the darkness of ignorance, and that attachment and aversion do not arise when things are not conceived of as having inherent existence. Also, the Four Hundred Verses states, "The seed of existence is consciousness; objects are its field of activity. If one sees the selflessness of objects, the seed of existence will cease." Also, the Commentary on the One Hundred Verses states, "Consciousness, which excessively imputes the nature of things, is due to the ignorance of the afflicted, and is attached to things and becomes the seed for entering samsara. When it ceases, samsara will cease." Also, the Commentary on the Entrance states, "Ignorance imputes a nature to things that do not exist, and is the nature of obscuring the sight of reality, it is conventional." It also says, "In this way, conventional truth is established by the ignorance of the afflicted, which is completely encompassed by the limb of craving." Also, the Sixty Stanzas of Reasoning states, "If one acknowledges things, then desire and hatred will arise, and unpleasant and disagreeable views will arise. From this, disputes will arise. This is the root of all views. Without it, afflictions will not arise. Therefore, if one fully understands it, views and afflictions will fully arise." These scriptures show that clinging to things as real is the root of samsara, and show that it is afflicted, and that attachment, aversion, etc. arise from it, as well as dependent origination.

If someone asks, since it is said in the scriptures that one can eliminate the clinging to reality by knowing the truth, do you consider the clinging to reality as a klesha obscuration? Generally, samsara arises from the ignorance of clinging to things as real, this ignorance is called klesha, and attachment etc. arise from ignorance, and by knowing dependent origination and suchness, one can reverse this. This is merely a view that is commonly accepted by all Buddhists, therefore, the scripture that only explains this much cannot prove that the clinging to reality is only a klesha obscuration that is divided into two If someone thinks, as it is said in the scriptures, how does one enter samsara because attachment etc. arise from not understanding the reality of things? The scriptures say: All the faults of afflictions arise from the view of the perishable aggregate, the wise have seen this. Therefore, in these treatises, it is repeatedly mentioned that the innate view of the aggregate is the root of samsara and the root of afflictions. Know that ignorance obscures the reality of phenomena, which is unborn, and makes birth etc. appear as illusions, which is conventional truth. So, in whose presence does it appear as true? The scriptures say that for those who are possessed by afflictions and ignorance, which are encompassed by the limbs of existence, it appears as true due to the power of ignorance. For those who do not cling to what appears as true, it only appears as conventional truth, and does not appear as true. As the scriptures say: False matter is conventional truth. This can be understood through these. Furthermore, the "Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness" says: Whatever truly distinguishes things born from causes and conditions, the Buddha said that is ignorance, from which the twelve limbs arise. If someone thinks, in this way, it is not directly stated that clinging to reality is the root of samsara. As mentioned above, the twelve limbs arise from the ignorance of clinging to things as real. As it is said in the "Root Wisdom Treatise": Because ignorance obscures, there is rebirth, the three existences are the actions of it. And so on. That is to say, the difference of ignorance, or the view that corresponds to ignorance, that is, the ignorance of self or what belongs to self, is the dependent origination that accomplishes samsara. As it is said in the eighteenth chapter of the "Root Wisdom Treatise": If there is no self or what belongs to self, inside and outside, then there will be no clinging, and when clinging ceases, birth ceases. Karma and afflictions
