Or, whatever changes, that is its cause. That also exists among them. Just like that. Here, direct perception is only symbolic, and inference is also included. If someone thinks that the various things like lotus stems and petals are not seen in the cause, so it is unreasonable to have multiple causes. If the result truly exists in the cause, then what will the cause become the result? However, lotus stems and the like do not arise without relying on their own seeds, and it is seen that they arise from seeds, therefore, the difference of the result is produced by the difference of the cause. Just as there are many kinds of results, the difference in the power of the cause is also proved to be many kinds. If asked, what caused this difference of multiple causes? No one else caused it, because this seed is also impossible to arise without its own cause. Therefore, it comes from the previous multiple causes. If asked, why does it have multiple powers, and the current barley seed only produces barley seedlings, but does not produce rice seedlings? The current barley seed does not hold any kind of multiple powers in an autonomous way, but because it is thrown from the power of the previous cause into the nature of producing things similar to its own kind. This is the nature of things, and no one can disturb it. Therefore, if there is no cause, it will fall into the state of being constant or non-existent. However, things are proved to have a cause because they are sometimes observed in a certain place and time. Second, refuting that sentient Ishvara is the cause. Refuting that insentient matter is the cause. The first point includes: examining Ishvara as the cause, examining the result produced by him, and examining the way the result is produced. First point, the Ishvara proponents and others say that the eternal, self-born, omniscient Ishvara, first has wisdom, and then creates all the worlds. If Ishvara is considered the cause of beings, then, please first say what is the essence of Ishvara? If they say it is the great elements, then, we also think that the result produced by the great elements arises from the great elements, so it is the cause, you call it Ishvara, we call it the great elements, it is only a difference in name.

It is only a difference, if that is the case, names are arbitrarily assigned by people, therefore, why bother with such great effort to accomplish freedom? This should not be done. However, if you think that freedom has the characteristics of being constant, one, worthy of offering, etc., then these earths, etc. are many, impermanent, without mental agitation, not gods to be offered to, and are to be trampled by feet, etc., not objects of respect, and also have impurity, therefore, these elements of earth, etc. are not freedom itself, because you think that freedom has characteristics opposite to these. If you say that freedom is space, that is not so, because there is no movement of the active function of producing fruit. It is also not self, because it has already been negated. If you say that the nature of freedom cannot be conceived by those on this shore, so there are no faults, then freedom is not an inconceivable agent either, if it is inconceivable, then what is the use of saying that it is an agent? Speaking must be done after thinking and knowing, if you don't know anything about what it is like, who would say it is an agent? If the causal agent is not understood, how can one think that these fruits are produced by it? It is necessary to separately understand what is produced and what can produce, and to determine the cause and effect before speaking, otherwise, the son of a widow, etc. would also become an agent. Secondly, are the fruits produced by freedom constant selves, etc., or impermanent knowledge, etc.? If, like the first case, it is thought to be selves, etc., then isn't the self that is part of the fruit, the fine particles of earth, etc., and the nature of the cause freedom itself also thought to be constant? If both cause and effect are constant, how can they be what is produced and what can produce? Because the cause is separated from the act of producing, and the fruit is separated from the difference of being born. If, like the second case, the previously appearing knowledge, etc. arise from conditions such as the object blue, etc., and the feelings of pleasure and pain that repeatedly arise in the continuum from beginningless time are from previous karma, therefore, tell me what fruit freedom produces! Because the fruit produced by it is impossible. In short, constant phenomena have no cause, and impermanent phenomena arise from their own cause.
