This is because it arises from the strength of cherishing others more than oneself, and because one sees that it can also eliminate the suffering of others like dispelling drowsiness. If there were no sentient beings, then who would attain the fruit of effort, Buddhahood? So, if it is said that promising for the sake of the fruit is also unreasonable, then it is actually true, because if the attainer, sentient beings, and the fruit to be attained are not truly established, then there is no difference between Nirvana and non-Nirvana. However, sentient beings exist in the face of their own appearances, and as just said, due to ignorance, clinging to self, thus accomplishing both the side of contaminated cyclic existence and the aspect of purification that is the opposite of it. Nirvana is the exhaustion of erroneous thoughts that are not found elsewhere, as it says in the Ornament of the Sutras: "Therefore, liberation is just the exhaustion of error." Therefore, due to the power of ignorance, cyclic existence, which is grasped by the proliferation of grasping and being grasped, is not deceptive in appearance. Due to its power, there is also Nirvana, which is the cessation of cyclic existence. Just as a person possessed by a demon lives in a way that is consistent with other people, but in his appearance there are inverted appearances such as the form of a demon, so he suffers and also abides in the happiness of being free from that suffering. Therefore, in ultimate truth, since samsara and nirvana are not truly established, bondage and liberation are reasonable. Otherwise, it is not so. If it existed by its own nature, then it would not change into non-existence. The change of its own nature into something else would never be reasonable. Like that. So, what is the use of you studying the path etc., hoping to attain what is not attained? Isn't ignorance something that should be eliminated in every way? Actually, although there is no attainment in ultimate truth, it exists in appearance. Therefore, until the nature of reality is manifested and Buddhahood is not attained, the ignorance of regarding the non-abiding Nirvana as something to be attained merely in conventional truth should not be eliminated, because it is necessary to rely on it to pacify the suffering of cyclic existence. Ultimately, when all the proliferation of grasping and being grasped has disappeared, this subtle obscuration of knowledge, which is manifest attachment to samsara and nirvana, will also be reversed, and that is the state of Buddhahood. It cannot be abandoned now, because the two truths have not been simultaneously understood.

Because the ways of appearance are completely different. Therefore, why not study the fruition by taking appearance as the basis? Although this inconsistent dwelling appearance must be abandoned, it cannot be abandoned now, and once it is abandoned, the suchness that has neither attainment nor abandonment will be realized. Until then, the expectation of fruition cannot be exhausted. Then, what is the use of refuting ignorance towards self? These two are not the same, because the mind that seeks fruition can exhaust suffering and also cease itself, just as fire arising from wood burns wood. Attachment to self, or the pride of thinking "I," is increased by the ignorance of clinging to a self. Therefore, the ignorance of mistaking non-self as self must be reversed. If there is no such ignorance, there will be no clinging to self. If there is no such self-clinging, there will be no wandering and being born in samsara. As it is said: In all internal and external phenomena, when thoughts of self and mine are exhausted, then grasping will also be exhausted, and because that is exhausted, birth is exhausted. Thus. Someone asks: Just as you cannot turn your mind away from the imputed self, so too, the object-possessing mind can never be turned away from the self that is established by its own nature, because it has been ingrained since beginningless time. Answer: These two are not the same, because it is merely imputed, appearing by virtue of dependent arising, and for ordinary beings, there is no reason to prove that it does not appear, nor is it necessary to transform it. However, clinging to self-establishment can be abandoned by meditating on selflessness, because the wisdom that realizes the reality of things, like light dispelling darkness, has great power. Therefore, seeing self is a temporary straying of the mind due to external influences, away from the reality of things. If it is transformed through the path of scripture and reason, so that the mind inclines towards the reality of things, then that is the nature of the mind, and therefore the mind and reality are inseparable. As the Pramāṇavārttika says: The nature of mind is clear light, stains are adventitious. Therefore, regarding the phrase "also transform," many people think that "also" refers to the antidote to transforming self-clinging, or the cause of self-clinging, etc., and thus many explanations have arisen, but it is difficult to find a suitable connection, here...
