Now, when seeing that beautiful woman, for the one who sees, because the habit of the antidote of emptiness is extremely weak in his mind-stream, attachment is absolutely impossible to reverse. Because in his mind-stream there is no emptiness that contradicts the clinging to truth and the clinging to reality. Even seeing that the external woman is actually empty, it will not be like seeing an illusory woman, hoping to obtain her and associate with her. Therefore, the root of desire is conceptual thought, which arises from elaboration, and the elaboration of conceptual thought will be prevented by emptiness. That is to say, merely seeing things as they are, just like knowing that there is no snake on the rope, conceptual thought will cease. And innate conceptual thoughts will be gradually abandoned by familiarizing oneself with the antidote in the mind-stream, and finally when the mind transforms into the state of the antidote, even the subtle seeds will not arise again, just like darkness can never remain in the center of the sun. Then, if the clinging to the appearance of reality and the clinging to the appearance of emptiness cannot go beyond the elaboration of conceptual thought, just like an elephant taking a bath, it will eventually fall into the net of conceptual thought again, how do you prevent conceptual thought? It cannot be prevented. If one can familiarize oneself with the emptiness of all things being without inherent existence, then the habit of clinging to reality, which contradicts this clinging, will be abandoned. At that time, clinging to non-reality is merely a conceptual thought that eliminates other things, and it can be determined by the principle of dependent arising that the true nature of things does not truly exist. By familiarizing oneself with not clinging to either reality or non-reality, then the clinging to external objects will also be cut off from the outside. As the sutra says: 'Existence and non-existence, these two are non-existent dharmas, whichever Bodhisattva knows this, will surely be liberated.' Thus. Therefore, although reality is prevented, how can the non-reality that prevents reality be prevented? If it is prevented, it will turn into reality again, because preventing non-reality is establishing reality. And non-reality is an antidote, etc. If you think like this, then, for the time being, in response to the clinging to the existence of reality that has been familiarized with since beginningless time, establish and familiarize yourself with non-reality. If one does not understand that things are without inherent existence, then there will never be an opportunity to generate certainty about the reality that is free from extremes.

Ground! However, mere non-existence itself is not the ultimate reality. When any object, such as form, is considered non-existent, if that object under investigation cannot be identified in name, by its own nature, in terms of arising, etc., then the non-existence that depends on it, being separated from the object it depends on, how can it exist as an object of focus before the mind? It cannot exist, just as if a barren woman's son is not born, his death cannot be determined either. Therefore, non-existence is merely established in dependence on existence; it does not exist as being established by its own nature independently. So, if existence is negated to establish non-existence, and then non-existence is negated again to establish existence, what is the use of alternating between the two? For those who rely on consciousness and are dominated by short-sighted conceptual thoughts, it is very true that such conceptualizations, like an elephant's bath, will arise. Because the inconceivable nature of reality is the greatest source of fear for those of little merit, they do not understand its state. If it is shown as non-existent, they grasp it as nihilistic emptiness; if it is shown as having appearances, they grasp it as truly established; if it is called union, they grasp it as meaning like black and white threads twisted together; if it is called inconceivable, they will only think of something like the nothingness of the Hwa-shang's view. If everyone could easily understand this profound and ultimate Dharma, then why is it said that these are beyond all worlds, are the realm of the noble ones, difficult to see, difficult to understand, and inconceivable? Therefore, the teacher Nagarjuna said: "If emptiness is viewed wrongly, those of little wisdom will be destroyed, just as if a snake is wrongly grasped, or a mantra is wrongly practiced. Therefore, knowing that the weak are difficult to fathom the depths of this Dharma, the Buddha's mind turned completely away from teaching the Dharma." Therefore, it is not that one side is negated to establish the other, but that all extremes are negated, and ultimately one enters the nature of reality, the suchness, which is free from negation and affirmation. Because emptiness and dependent arising, which appear as if they are from the beginning unborn, the nature of reality, the great equality, which is inseparable from the beginning, until one has not gained deep certainty from the depths of one's heart, one must accumulate merit and rely on the feet of a qualified and special virtuous friend.
