Although it appears vividly in my body, there is no originally unattained dharma to be attained. Mind and habitual patterns, like shape and color, are neither one nor different, so they are extremely difficult to examine. Secondly, if everything is mind, why does it appear to arise from external causes and conditions? All these dharmas arise in the manner of interdependent origination of causes and conditions. If the mind has a complete collection of causes, it will arise, and if the causes cease, it will cease. If we examine it in terms of ultimate truth, just as a fruit does not arise from a rotten seed, a non-existent true cause does not produce a non-existent true effect. Therefore, it cannot be established that this is the cause and this is the effect. Why is it said that the effect arises from the cause? Because from beginningless time, clinging to cause and effect as true entities, and the inner nature of mind that separately cognizes cause and effect, appears like external causes and conditions. Even in dreams, due to the power of conceptualization, forms and so on are seen as arising and ceasing, like appearances. Because those two, cause and effect, do not exist, there is no arising from cause, and if there is no arising, there is no destruction that is its opposite. Since there is no arising and ceasing, there is no establishment of self and other. If there is no self and other, who will die and who will transmigrate? Since these two do not exist, and because these two do not exist, there is no transmigration, no permanence, no death, and therefore no annihilation. Since there is no arising and so on, there is no delusion from one to another, and no samsara. Therefore, it is evident that there is no nirvana that is liberation from samsara, just as if water is not formed, a flood cannot be formed. Secondly, showing that the basis of appearance, the nature of mind, is not established in ultimate truth. The alaya (ཀུན་གཞི་,ālayavijñāna,ālayavijñāna,the storehouse of all seeds) which is the place of habitual patterns, the moment and the habitual patterns are never separate. If one does not exist, the other must not exist. If either one does not exist, it is impossible. At that time, these two become equal in existence and non-existence. If the habitual patterns do not exist, then the alaya also does not exist, like a knot without a rope. Even so, why is it said that habitual patterns do not exist? Because it does not conform to the nature of things, it is produced by untrue conceptualization, so habitual patterns do not exist. If habitual patterns do not exist, then the object of the alaya is habitual patterns, so it is not an object, and because it does not exist, the alaya does not exist, the object of clinging

Since there is no 'that,' all consciousnesses are also non-existent. As above, since there are no directions, both the object of focus, habitual tendencies, and their basis, the alaya-consciousness, are absent. How then can the various consciousnesses and wisdoms that depend on them arise? Therefore, these minds and mental factors transcend the extremes of existence and non-existence, are free from one and many, and do not abide in any way whatsoever. Second, examining the nature of purification, there are two aspects: teaching and explanation. The first is: Because there is no enlightenment of the Sugata, the magical displays of the Buddha, though appearing, are not true, appearing as if similar to illusion. Second, there are two aspects: showing the non-establishment of non-conceptual wisdom, and showing the non-establishment of pure, transcendental wisdom. The first is: Similarly, the non-conceptual, true wisdom, regarding the extremely pure root of limitless continuity, and the uncorrupted nature of the Dharmadhatu, even if we examine where these wisdoms focus and arise, it cannot be established. This is because the vajra, that is, the place or cause of non-conceptual wisdom, is the mind, and since there is no mind, there is also no resultant wisdom. Therefore, the two are not established, abiding equally, completely identical to the nature of the unestablished mind, becoming equal. The Mind-Only school asserts that wisdom is momentary, but this is not actually established, because the wisdom that realizes the Dharmadhatu, like a vajra, becoming the pinnacle of wisdom, has no object of focus in any way, therefore that wisdom is not momentary. The second is: The virtuous roots of the three spheres being pure are like reflections, not truly existent, therefore the pure worldly wisdom that depends on them will also not exist. The sixth general meaning, after examining separately, shows the definitive meaning, divided into three: equality of intention, equality of conduct, and summarizing the meaning to show the Bodhisattva. The first is further divided into: the two truths of the basis being equal, showing no acceptance or rejection; the truth and falsehood of the path being equal, showing no attachment or aversion; and being free from the extremes of existence and non-existence, showing all equality. The first is: Because both defilement and purification are not established, both enlightenment, that is, becoming a Buddha, and non-enlightenment, that is, sentient beings, are equal and one in being without characteristics, therefore Buddha.
