Not seeing the subtle tree, all appearances arising from the Alaya consciousness are attached to the cognizable appearances, like water in a mirage. Secondly, why does it appear? Like mistaking a rope for a snake due to not seeing its true nature, the Alaya consciousness, which holds various habitual tendencies and possesses a continuous nature, appears in various forms through the power of the mind. However, without realizing this, one clings to all appearances as existing by their own nature, following inverted and confused thoughts. From following wrong views, a nature with defilements arises, which is the thought that becomes the cause of samsara. One grasps at a self and outer and inner phenomena that do not exist, as if they were real, and causes them to grow and expand. Because the extremely subtle stream of momentary Alaya consciousness, which arises with habitual tendencies, is not seen, various non-Buddhist views, such as clinging to a self, arise, and one also doubts the path and liberation from it. Why is this? Because this Alaya consciousness is the place of limitless habitual tendencies of virtuous and non-virtuous actions, the habitual tendencies residing in the Alaya are also limitless, and it is impossible to definitively say that these habitual tendencies do not exist. The conditions that cause the habitual tendencies that are the cause to increase and awaken into the nature of the result are also various. Because of virtue, many habitual tendencies awaken to be born in higher realms, and because of afflictions and non-virtue, many habitual tendencies awaken to be born in lower realms. Some conditions for being born as a human cause some of the habitual tendencies left in the Alaya from being born as a human in a previous life to ripen, and thus one now takes a human body. Other conditions, such as being born as a god, awaken other habitual tendencies to be born as a god, and when one sees the power of changing from a previous state to another existence, evil thoughts arise, such as wanting to be a creator of the world like Ishvara, and the path established in that way does not pacify even the smallest suffering, and one will not be liberated from the three realms. Turning away from the path of practicing yoga on the true meaning, and the cause of corrupting the path due to inverted and confused thoughts, and doubting that path, also arises from not realizing that the stream of Alaya consciousness flows in an extremely subtle state, like clinging to a snake or doubting when not recognizing a rope. The fault of not realizing is that by clinging to a self, one's own continuum is completely

Being obscured and not clinging to self, one is separated from the lineage and liberation of the noble ones, and cannot transcend the state of ordinary beings. Because of engaging in various actions that are established as dharma, various sufferings arise, and through unwholesome actions, one falls into the three lower realms. The third part has two aspects: the entity and the reasoning. The first is: Consciousness, also because it grasps the characteristics of form, sound, etc., as distinct marks of each aggregate, therefore, because there are eight objects of knowledge, and the differences in actions such as seeing, it appears as the eight aggregates of consciousness, but in the nature of knowing and awareness, it is one, so in nature there is no multiplicity. Because the mind has no multiplicity, therefore the first moment of the mind, which is the basis for the arising of all, the moment of the Alaya-consciousness, only then, do the body with its faculties and all phenomena exist. Because one clings and is attached to those things in the past, therefore the later wisdom arises in the same way as the past, and imprints mature on it, thus appearing as various. Thus, from the continuum of one's own mind-moments, the dharma of noble ones and ordinary beings does not exist elsewhere, because all dharmas exist in the mind. The six lineages of beings such as gods, and the various subdivisions within them, all appear due to the power of the samadhi practiced from beginningless time. The second part has two: explaining the reasoning, and refuting and explaining the unreasonable. The first is: All is pure, all is one's own mind, and that mind-continuum does not exist in any direction such as existence or non-existence, nor in any direction such as east or west, nor does it exist in any direction, so it cannot be indicated as one, therefore it cannot be indicated as one. Because the mind has no direction at all, it cannot be distinguished as different, if there is one side of purity and impurity, then it cannot be indicated as the characteristic of one, let alone things, even if it is a non-thing like space, the east and west of empty space also have boundaries, centers, and differences, so it cannot be one, but the mind has no direction of any kind, so there is no difference. Therefore, all the infinite realms are my body, because there is no object and it becomes one, so everything is me, and I am everything, because my body is the infinite realms and beings.
