This alone is enough to powerfully refute the previous argument. Even though the nature of all dharmas is emptiness, if that nature cannot be determined as a dharma with nature, then what good is it even if it is nature? No one can understand it. It is not like that. The cutting off or elimination of the perverted imputation on the nature of things, and the correct understanding of the nature of things, such as the one or more reasons mentioned above, after hearing these, the collection of those who infer by means of the wisdom that correctly understands their meaning, can understand the emptiness of the nature of things in a general way. Those yogis who are completely familiar with its meaning, with the eye of non-perverted wisdom, clearly see all dharmas as equal in ultimate nature. That is, seeing equality directly with transcendental wisdom is the first ground. Then, the clear appearance of the dharmadhatu gradually increases, and finally the nature is completely manifested as it is, that is the Tathagata. Similarly, the wisdom arising from samadhi and so on, which distinguishes all dharmas as equality, is free from the defilement of concepts, and the inner and outer things are pleasant without examination, like a water tree without essence, all the seeds of imputation do not grow, so understand. As it is said in the Sutra Entering Great Compassion: "Just as a wet water tree, those who desire essence dissect it in order, just as there is no essence inside and out, so should you know all dharmas." And so on. It is also said in the Jataka: "Whoever, like the udumbara flower, does not think that there is essence in existence, the monk has gone to the other shore of the non-other shore, like an old snake shedding its old skin." It means that the udumbara flower never blooms, not because when there is no flower, the flower is too small to be seen, but because there is no flower at all, so it is not seen, similarly, there is no essence at all in existence.

If seeing the other shore is not, or rather, the other shore of this samsaric world has reached nirvana, abandoning samsara. Like this, these two verses of debate and response from the scriptures explain that the clinging to reality, habitual from beginningless time, is difficult to reverse, and the only antidote to them is to engage in rational analysis. If one is accustomed to it, one can eliminate afflictions, but if one is not accustomed to it, one cannot eliminate them, so one must make diligence the core, and so on, which is actually the meaning. Like this, for a suddenly arising object, if the mind is invested and repeatedly contemplated, it is still difficult to immediately eliminate it, let alone the afflictions that have been habitual from beginningless time? Therefore, if the fruit of understanding the Dharma cannot become the antidote to fear, suffering, and afflictions, then it is losing its meaning. For example, preparing abundant food to eliminate hunger but not eating it, and eventually dying of starvation. Therefore, for the emptiness of the nature of all phenomena, merely obtaining a dry understanding through rational analysis is useless; one must single-mindedly abide in it, thereby generating experience, which is the only thing that those who understand the Dharma should do. As it is said in the Dhammapada: Even if one speaks many meaningful words, a heedless and impure person will not act accordingly. Like a herdsman counting the cattle of others, they do not obtain the qualification for practice. Even if one speaks few meaningful words, one can practice the Dharma according to the Dharma, eliminating greed, hatred, and delusion; such a person can obtain the qualification for practice. Like this. Moreover, for the subtle and profound paths of the Buddha, if one does not strive through various methods and reasons, one will not generate a definitive understanding that accords with the correct reality. Therefore, one must ignite the fire of wisdom like a wildfire spreading in the forest of hearing and thinking, with the wind of diligence, and one must thoroughly burn away the weeds of superimposition with the power of reality. In this way, do not fall asleep in the darkness of foolish meditation, nor be distracted by the wind of mere learning, drifting aimlessly. Rather, one should taste the flavors of various Dharmas in the palace of the supreme Great Vehicle, rely on the true spiritual friend by pleasing them, and, guided by many excellent virtuous friends, transcend the gods.
