The land and trees are inexhaustible, but your saying 'exists' and 'does not exist' is not the way it is. Why is that? All phenomena are pacified by emptiness, these two truths are neither existent nor non-existent. What you know is merely the meaning of the words, because you do not understand the profound meaning, you are like a blind or deaf person to such a meaning. How can one know and realize such a profound meaning? Having heard this, it is said that after meditating in solitude for seven days, one realized emptiness. It would be good to remain equally in the Middle Way, free from extremes, where appearance and emptiness are inseparable. To grasp at the aspects of existence and non-existence, which are elaborations, while the emptiness of the Dharmadhatu is free from all extremes, and to have contentious people who view each other like enemies are many in Tibet (referring to that time), but those who are free from partiality and straighten the path of the Sugata, alas, how fortunate! Thus, the meaning taught by the Sutras, the noble Nagarjuna of good intelligence also said: If things are not established, then the non-existence of things will not be established. When a thing has become something else, people say that the thing is gone. As mentioned above, when a thing has become something else, it is considered non-existent in the world, like something that never existed before. Also, that same teacher said: Those of small mind who, regarding phenomena, cling to existence and non-existence, that view should be examined, they cannot see peace. And: What is called 'existence' is clinging to permanence; what is called 'non-existence' is seen as annihilation. Therefore, the wise should not abide in existence and non-existence. And: All is truly not truly, not truly not truly is not true, not true not not true is not true, this is the Buddha's teaching. And: Those who see self, things, other things, things and non-things, they do not truly see the Buddha's teaching. And: Those who think that phenomena arise dependently, like the moon in water, neither truly nor falsely, their view will not be stolen. And: All is neither permanent nor impermanent, there is nothing, if it is permanent, if the real becomes permanent and impermanent, then where is it? Whatever is said, know that all is empty of its own nature. What is called emptiness, that is also empty. Thus, non-empty does not exist.

That from which emptiness arises, From that, all meanings arise. That from which emptiness does not arise, From that, nothing arises. Thus it is said. All the Victors have declared, Emptiness to be the ultimate of all views. Those who hold the view of emptiness, They are said to be untamable. Thus it is said. From actions, afflictions, and discriminations, Those elaborations that arise from elaboration, Will be ceased by emptiness. Thus it is said. The object to be spoken of ceases, So does the sphere of activity of the mind. Unborn and unceasing, The nature of reality is the same as nirvana. Thus it is said. Not known from others, peaceful, Not elaborated by elaborations, Without discrimination, meanings not different, That is the nature of Suchness. Thus it is said. Secondly, showing that sound and thought are the sphere of activity of the conventional. Even if relying on discrimination, It becomes conventional, not truly real. Thus it is said. If the ultimate reality, although its own nature transcends the realm of sound and thought, yet due to the power of beginningless habituation, these appearances that arise as unerring are held as objects of refutation and establishment, and reliance is placed on discrimination, thinking of existence and non-existence as the same. In order to generate that meaning in the mind, there is the application of words such as unborn, but even so, mere discrimination is not the nature of the object, it is merely an image of discrimination, so it is not separate from consciousness, and consciousness itself is not truly real, has it not been well examined? Furthermore, the mind that has not seen the reality of the object is the nature of the conventional, and its sphere of activity is the nature of imputation, therefore unborn and so on become conventional, not truly real, like the sound and meaning of wood and so on. Therefore, all these phenomena arise dependently, are without inherent existence, these two are union, although they are free from elaboration, yet merely focusing on the sound and meaning of those things creates grasping, so it does not lead to the realization of reality, it is necessary to experience the actual meaning or the corresponding meaning of the name, thereby generating non-discriminating wisdom that ceases elaboration. Therefore, it is said that the ultimate is not the sphere of activity of the mind, the mind is considered to be conventional. Thus it is said. In that, things have no inherent existence.
