Furthermore, it is valid to posit the previously existing seed as the cause for the sprouting of a seedling. However, it is unreasonable to separate the un-decayed and decayed aspects of the seed and claim that either one can produce the seedling. The cause of the seedling is merely the seed; one cannot single out a part of the seed's form or a counter-entity opposed to non-substantiality as the cause. If one separates aspects of direction and time and posits them as the cause, the assertion that nothing other than what is specifically designated can be the cause would collapse, like saying that a pot is solely composed of particles of form. Therefore, cause and effect are not reasonable whether they are in conjunction or disjunction. However, it is an infallible law of nature that a cause produces an effect. For example, when the reflection of the sun and moon appears in water, the various characteristics present in the actual sun and moon are visible. Although the logic of whether form and reflection are in conjunction or disjunction is untenable, the way cause and effect arise dependently is similar, taking that manifest appearance as an example. As it is taught, the arising of the effect from the power of the cause itself is merely the law of dependent origination, and it is unreasonable to assert anything beyond that. A seedling arises from a seed.

All grounds will be completely annihilated. Therefore, as stated in the "Difficult Explanation," it is impossible for both the destroyed and undestroyed parts of the seed to arise. Therefore, one should believe in the natural law that effects arise from causes. Like this, for things like seedlings, the verbal acknowledgment that "effects arise after the cause is destroyed or disappears" is only to exclude the part where the cause exists without disappearing in the stage of the effect. Between the moment the cause ceases and the moment the effect arises, if there is no other interruption between arising and ceasing, then it is found to be empty upon examination. There is no destruction that can produce an effect other than the previous cause, and there is nothing that becomes an entity after the cause disappears. Effects arise from previous causes, but the so-called "previous" does not refer to any entity other than the cause that can produce the effect. This should be understood. Secondly, the method of determining that the basis of appearance is truly emptiness is: Therefore, if conventional truth has no cause, it is not good to say "impossible." If the immediate cause of this is true, then speak of it. Thus it is said. Like this, even without the slightest inherent existence, the forms of cause and effect appear unhindered. Therefore, these dharmas are merely appearances without establishing inherent existence. Realists think that if there is no basis or cause for these conventionally experienced appearances, then it is impossible for them to appear. If the basis of appearance or the immediate cause of this conventional truth truly exists, then speak of it, and if it can be established without being harmed by reason, I also acknowledge that it is the cause. But as mentioned above, it has already been established by reason that all objects of knowledge are not truly established, so it is impossible to establish a true cause. In this regard, the noble Nagarjuna used the metaphors of mantras, medicines, and illusions to explain the establishment of dependent origination in verses: "There is no mantra of a single letter." etc., as stated in the establishment of conventional truth. In this regard, realists think that just like cloth without weft threads, if there is no cause for the appearance of various conventional appearances, it is impossible for them to appear. Therefore, they consider indivisible particles and consciousness, or the consciousness of the two emptinesses, etc., as the basis or cause of appearance.

In short, just as the Buddha Bhagavan said that a chariot is established by relying on its parts, sentient beings are established by taking the aggregates as the cause. The Madhyamikas believe that it is precisely because there is no truth as the basis of appearance that appearance does not cease but arises. Therefore, they assert that all phenomena are self-appearing from emptiness. Just as images are empty, yet become the objects of the senses, and so on. However, for beginners, emptiness and appearance, or existence and non-existence, seem to be mutually exclusive, as if one negates the other, making it difficult to comprehend simultaneously. But in reality, if one examines the vase placed in front of oneself with the reasoning of mutual separation, one will see that not even a particle of its self-established nature exists. Therefore, emptiness does not appear only at the time of present examination, but even when the vase appears in the three stages of arising, abiding, and ceasing, it does not deviate even slightly from the state of selflessness. Therefore, it is appearing in emptiness, and one must be certain that this is the union of appearance and emptiness, the true nature of reality. In general, it is easy to understand emptiness through the reasoning of non-inherent existence, but it is difficult to believe that emptiness will appear as dependent origination. Once one has faith in this, the foundation for the views of all Sutras and Tantras is laid. Therefore, from the certainty of directly determining the basis of appearance as being completely empty of inherent existence, seeing the way in which appearance arises as unfailing dependent origination is truly wonderful beyond wonder. And the way to realize this is also fully explained by these verses. The second part is refuting arguments, which is divided into briefly explaining the way of having no arguments and explaining its meaning in detail. The first part is further divided into two ways: being able to destroy other schools and other schools not being able to attack our school. First, the nature of all things follows the path of reason, eliminating the views of others, therefore, there is no place for evil debaters. Just like this, truly knowing the nature of all knowable things, following the path of the power of reality, eliminates the views of other Samkhyas and others who pervert the nature of things, thinking that fruits exist or do not exist, and so on.
