The way in which the infallible appearance of cause and effect is most reasonable is: it is sufficient to say that this effect arises infallibly from this cause. There is no need to find reasons such as how it arises, or what the reason for its arising is. Just as fire is hot, which is the nature of things, there is no need to seek a separate reason for why it is hot. Therefore, the way things exist is measurable, and measuring in accordance with that is valid cognition or reasoning. Regarding that reasoning, from the perspective of measuring the three—object, cause and effect, and essence—there are said to be three types of reasoning: action, function, dependence, and the nature of things. For those objects to be measured, cutting off exaggerations and establishing affirmation and negation in a non-inverted manner is called the reasoning that establishes validity. Among these, the measure of what has become manifest is direct perception, and the measure of what has become hidden is inference, of which there are two. Inference also ultimately relies on direct perception because the measure grasps the reason-possessing dharma that can infer that hidden object. And that direct perception must rely solely on the nature of things. Thus, both action and dependent arising are the nature of things, and therefore are included in the reasoning of the nature of things. Therefore, the reasoning that decides and brings to an end all reasoning is the reasoning of the nature of things. Having reached that point, there is no need to establish any other validity, just as the reason for fire being hot cannot be explained. Therefore, that which is in accordance with the nature of things is called the reasoning of the force of reality. Because it measures the way things exist without error, it is a meaning that cannot be taken away by other reasoning. Both conventional and ultimate valid cognition are called the force of reality. Among these, the nature of fire being hot is the conventional nature of things or the way things exist, and the nature of fire being without inherent existence is the ultimate nature of things or the way things exist. Therefore, these two valid cognitions, when combined, establish the way things exist without error; one alone is not sufficient. Whatever the Buddha, the Bhagavan, said was based on these two truths, and he showed the reality of things without error, just as they are. The followers

It is also necessary to ascertain with reason that this is the unerring teaching of Shakya. In general, to say that reasoning and, in particular, valid cognition, etc., are not needed for inner learning is a great and formidable secret mantra of the demon that obstructs the practice of the perfect object of valid cognition, the Buddha's words purified by the three examinations. Because the Buddha, the Bhagavan, directly saw the reality of things without error and compassionately revealed it to others, if there were a shred of truth in this statement that denigrates reason, which is the gateway to generating certainty about the meaning, then there would be absolutely no possibility of inverted statements. Therefore, it is important to understand such a way of deciding on reasoning, in both cases of valid cognition. After understanding it in general like that, when examining cause and effect here, there is a doubt about how the cause and effect are related because of the long time interval between the cessation of karma and the fruit of karma, so although the realists admit that there are things like attainment and non-wastage that connect the two, the Madhyamikas only say dependent arising, so there is no need for any other substance to connect the two, and the fruit ripens in the continuum where the conditions of the previous karma are complete, without wasting, so it is very reasonable as cause and effect. In this way, even if it appears to be continuous, like a seed and a sprout, it cannot be produced after contact, so it is continuous like a seed and a sprout, and it is feasible as cause and effect. Like karma and its fruit, if it does not arise continuously, it is not feasible as cause and effect, and there is not the slightest bit of it, and understanding the two equally is the most important understanding. Therefore, recognizing that the seed itself produces the sprout is the reason for the action, and this is also the nature of the seed, just as the nature of fire is heat. Therefore, it is not the nature of things that the unobstructed power of the cause does not produce its own fruit, or produces it in a confused way, or produces it endlessly. Therefore, if we examine whether the sprout arises from the destruction of the seed or from the non-destruction, neither is reasonable. However, it only arises from the preceding moment of the cause, the seed, going first.
