Therefore, it is the emptiness of non-existence, which can easily enter, etc., and is the root of all pure white dharmas. The Blessed One also said: Just as the footprint of an elephant is the most excellent among all footprints, the perception of impermanence is the most excellent among all perceptions. Thirdly, regarding the way of being able to function, just as the horns of a rabbit, etc., are merely names and have no essence of their own, all non-existents are the same in meaning, merely negating things, and there is no independent existence whatsoever. Therefore, things that cannot function, such as space, etc., cannot be established as existent by conventional valid cognition, so it should be understood that they are non-existent in reality. Therefore, the object of acceptance and rejection for a person is only the functional object that has its own characteristics in convention, so it should be regarded as conventional truth here. As it is said: When accomplishing one thing, it is the basis, and others are like abandoning neutrality. As it is said. At this time, as the basis to be known, from the wise Pandit to the foolish cowherd, the functional object that is known to all, the harmless sensory power that can manifest its own characteristics and produce its own future results, these are the objects measured by conventional valid cognition. Based on this, existence and non-existence, negation and affirmation, general and specific, contradiction and connection, substance and attribute, expression and expressed, appearance and elimination, and so on, endless classifications are established and designated, therefore, the real object of the word "conventional" is only the functional thing. Then, one might think that the last moment of a continuous cessation does not have the characteristic of being able to function? Because it has the ability when it encounters conditions, it is said that there is no fault. Even if it does not encounter conditions, although it will not produce its own future results, it will not become completely non-functional. In other treatises, the term "inverted" is also applied to conventional truth. In terms of the way things appear, there is no contradiction in simply applying that term here as well. However, this treatise must measure the state of convention with valid cognition, so the way of establishing it must be like a treatise on valid cognition in all aspects. Therefore, even in convention, things that do not function cannot be established as the object of conventional valid cognition, therefore it is only the functional one.

Therefore, one must adhere to conventional truth. For example, regarding the objects of mistaken clinging appearances, such as the double moon, what appears there is merely consciousness, just the appearance of consciousness. Therefore, there is no fault of not being included in conventional truth. If one considers whether the self-nature of the appearing object is established or not, it is merely non-existent. If one assumes that it exists in reality and does not include the characteristic of conventional truth, then it would become a third knowable that is not included in the two truths. If one asserts that it exists and is not momentary, then it would become a permanent appearance and would not be false. In that case, it would lead to the impossibility of establishing examples of unreal appearances, etc. Therefore, being more foolish than ordinary people, holding the state of animals, and arguing with those who are wise about the reality of things is a source of abundant laughter! Similarly, one should also apply this to the case of grasping the appearance of non-existence through the power of negation, such as the self-nature of non-existent things, namely emptiness, and so on. For those who have not mastered the understanding of valid cognition treatises, it is easy to understand the distinction between correct and incorrect conventional truth. However, in this context, for the view that conventional truth pervades functionality, the key point of nominal valid cognition is extremely profound, which is the domain of those who are long accustomed to the tradition of Dharmakirti. Thus, although three characteristics are shown from the perspective of distinction, from the perspective of complete inclusion, the nature of one conventional truth must possess all three characteristics. That is to say, the meaning obtained by nominal valid cognition, or all things that can manifest their own characteristics, or that which appears but does not exist, these are the nature of conventional truth, which is repeatedly stated. To briefly describe the manner of distinction and complete inclusion, it is to name these by means of excluding what is not it or eliminating others. There are two ways of eliminating: the elimination of others by non-affirming negation, such as "non-pot," and the elimination of others by non-negation, such as "non-pot." That is, understanding its nature by eliminating what is not itself is distinction, and eliminating all that is not itself by establishing its own nature is complete inclusion. Therefore, if what is not it is negated by distinction, then its nature is established as complete inclusion, and vice versa.
