Those who wish to be liberated from ignorance, and the Vedic followers, etc., who regard Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, etc., as their respective deities, consider them to be permanent and ultimately real. They acknowledge that the objects arising from the transformations of those gods are impermanent and deceptive in nature. They pride themselves on believing that if they attain the position of those gods, they will be permanently liberated. Therefore, they rely on various ascetic practices and vows, as well as various methods of practicing yoga such as sacrifices, meditation, and wind. Furthermore, there are those who assert that a permanent self and space, etc., exist naturally from the beginning, such as the "Eternal Existence Theory," etc. Although there are many different names of philosophical schools and specific views, if all of these are summarized, they acknowledge a permanent entity as the cause of bondage and liberation in samsara. Since these eternalists claim that there is liberation, they also strive to practice perverse vows, presuming to attain liberation. All of these are refuted by negating permanence and reality, and the individual refutations should be understood in the context of the scriptures. The Carvakas (materialists) are: Only these four elements that appear in the realm of direct perception exist, and these four elements are the cause of all objects, faculties, and consciousness, therefore they are ultimately real. They acknowledge that these conditioned phenomena that arise from these four elements and eventually perish are impermanent and deceptive in nature. They do not accept the results of actions from past and future lives, such as the habit of the path, because the present consciousness arises suddenly from the aggregation of elements in the womb state, such as curds, like the intoxicating power in alcohol, and not from the prior existence of consciousness from a previous life. As long as one stays in this world, intelligence and breath will arise, and at death, like a lamp extinguishing, the body decomposes into dust, and the mind dissolves into space, therefore there is no future life. Therefore, there is no karma, path, or liberation. The appearance of different things such as pleasure and pain, like round peas and sharp thorns, are not made by anyone, but arise naturally in that way. Therefore, as long as the body and mind aggregate have not died, they only pursue what is beneficial to themselves. To refute this, the assertion that there are four elements is refuted, and the atoms are refuted.

It should be understood from the reasoning, as well as the reasoning that prevents the denial of past and future lives, the reasoning of preventing causelessness, and the reasoning of the scriptures when explaining the establishment of conventional reality. Thus, the assertions of the outsiders are all materialistic views. The eternalists believe that the self and so on are permanent and real entities, and the nihilists also have strong attachments to the reality of the objects seen here and now, believing that after this thing ceases and is destroyed, there is no connection between past and future lives. Therefore, even if some of their dharmas are established as false and deceptive dharmas, in the end, they are only established by relying on some real entity. Because all the paths of the world are similar to the ignorance that has entered together since beginningless time, and are established only by this short-sighted knowledge, although there are various and endless views, it is impossible to go beyond the attachment to reality. It is like a jaundiced person seeing different things such as conch shells, the moon, and silver, but seeing nothing other than yellow. Therefore, for those who abide in inverted views, no one can tolerate the great roar of the lion of selflessness. Even if they divide what is correct and incorrect into two, and make various establishments, it will not harm the root of attachment to reality at all. This is called superficial emptiness, which is ignorance and inverted understanding of the two truths. Secondly, even the Buddhists of our own school, who are superior to the worldly path, have differences in their understanding of the meaning of the two truths, from a slightly similar understanding to the way of realizing them as they are, from high to low. Among them, for the two schools of Vaibhashika and Sautrantika, although there are different assertions, in reality, they believe that: if what is destroyed and excluded is the coarse dharma that can abandon self-grasping, then it is conventional truth; what cannot be abandoned is only the momentary indivisible consciousness, and the extremely subtle indivisible form, which must be ultimate truth. Without these, these coarse forms of consciousness would have no basis for creation, so it is unreasonable for them to appear in this way, like a woolen cloth without weft threads. Therefore, they believe that the five aggregates of appropriation, which are composed of many extremely subtle particles and momentary consciousnesses, are of the nature of momentary arising and ceasing, and that they cling to this and think of themselves as "I".
