Because one has unwavering faith in what has been learned, and cannot be swayed by others, it is called gaining faith through understanding, which is entering the path characterized by qualities. Therefore, knowing that such wisdom, which is like the eye at the beginning of the path, is indispensable, and seeking and striving to obtain it, is the object to be tamed for this purpose. Third, to which side does it belong? This treatise establishes the nature of the five knowable dharmas, and as will be explained below, all Mahayana is included therein, so although it is an explanation of the intent of all Mahayana, it is especially the stainless teachings of the profound sutras such as the Lankavatara Sutra and the Samadhiraja Sutra, which were requested by Sagaramati. That is, this way of acknowledging only the mind in conventional terms is clearly shown again and again in the Lankavatara Sutra, such as: "External forms do not exist; one's own mind appears as external; because the mind cannot be comprehended, children perceive compounded things." Regarding the view of the two truths, the same sutra also says: "In the conventional, things exist; in the ultimate, there is no self-nature; where there is no self-nature, what is mistaken? That is the conventional truth." And, regarding the view of the union of the two ways, the same sutra also says: "Relying on mind-only, one does not investigate external objects. Abiding in the true object, one should also greatly abandon mind-only. After abandoning mind-only, one should also greatly abandon the absence of appearance. The yogi who abides in the absence of appearance will see the Great Vehicle. Entering is spontaneously accomplished and peaceful, purified by pure aspirations. Supreme wisdom, without self, is not seen in the absence of appearance." Thus it is said. Regarding the way of being without self-nature in the ultimate, that sutra and especially the Samadhiraja Sutra say: "By knowing the nature of the mind, wisdom will arise again." And, "The wise know compounded and uncompounded things, and after destroying all concepts of signs, if they abide in the absence of signs, then they will thoroughly know that all dharmas are empty." And, "Existence and non-existence are both extremes; purity and impurity are also extremes; therefore, after completely abandoning both extremes, the wise should not even abide in the middle." And, "The path of sound and words is beyond expression, that

Like the sky, the nature of Dharma, if one discerns such an excellent principle, then one's pride will also be inexhaustible. As stated in such ways, it is made very clear the ultimate nature of what is and is not. In the self-commentary, it says: 'Adorned with the precious arrangements of various lineages and sutras, having understood this with meticulous intelligence, may beings endowed with the wealth of intelligence and the steadfast ones meditate fearlessly on the profound sutras such as the Moon Lamp.' As it is said, regarding the intention of the immaculate words of the Buddha, with this very correct measure, without being led by others, having ascertained it, one should grasp the key to opening the path of the chariot. Fourth, regarding the meaning of the beginning and the end, what is the unerring truth of the two truths? What are the two principles? If one asks, what is the nature of the two truths, it is to be known. The two principles are the path of ascertaining its meaning as it is. Therefore, these objects of knowledge are divided by whether they are correct or not, so they are included in the two truths. Regarding these two meanings, various schools of thought, both internal and external, have arisen due to the ways of measuring with the mind in a reversed, partial, and correct manner. For example, the Samkhya school of outsiders believes that the प्रधान (藏文:གཙོ་བོ།,梵文天城体:प्रधान,梵文罗马拟音:pradhāna,汉语字面意思: प्रधान) and the self, which have the nature of the three qualities being equal, are the ultimate truth, and the transformations of the प्रधान (藏文:གཙོ་བོ།,梵文天城体:प्रधान,梵文罗马拟音:pradhāna,汉语字面意思: प्रधान) are the conventional truth, having the nature of deceiving. When one gains the eye of meditation by practicing the path, and sees the faults of the transformations manifest, the transformations dissolve into the realm of the प्रधान (藏文:གཙོ་བོ།,梵文天城体:प्रधान,梵文罗马拟音:pradhāna,汉语字面意思: प्रधान), and the self, the person of wisdom, is not connected with objects that entice and deceive, and remains alone, that is liberation. The secret ones believe that the one परमेश्वर (藏文:བདག་དམ་པ།,梵文天城体:परमेश्वर,梵文罗马拟音:parameśvara,汉语字面意思: परमेश्वर) is merely the nature of consciousness pervading all, like the great sky, which is the ultimate truth. Although it appears as many, it is not true, because the self is merely consciousness, so the objects of the container and the contents appear as separate, which is the conventional truth. When the yogi practices this परमेश्वर (藏文:བདག་དམ་པ།,梵文天城体:परमेश्वर,梵文罗马拟音:parameśvara,汉语字面意思: परमेश्वर) properly, he is separated from innate and non-innate ignorance, and like a pot breaking, the space inside it merges into the great space, dissolving into that great परमेश्वर (藏文:བདག་དམ་པ།,梵文天城体:परमेश्वर,梵文罗马拟音:parameśvara,汉语字面意思: परमेश्वर).
