Therefore, it must be the mind's clear awareness, and there is nothing beyond that. Considering that these sectarian views should be briefly stated, if the various habits of clinging to reality, which have existed in one's own mind-stream since beginningless time, are fully matured, then the manifestations of illusory objects, forms, etc., that is, this phenomenon, although there is not the slightest separation between the perceiver and the perceived object, appear as if they were object and subject. This is due to the mind's delusion or error, manifesting things that do not exist, which is the nature of illusion. Similarly, like dreams, Gandharva cities, fire wheels, illusions, water moons, etc., the Mind-Only School believes this. Second, examining this view includes examining its advantages and disadvantages, and refuting its shortcomings. First, these are good, but are the realities of these things truly real? Or do you readily accept them without examination? This is something to think about. Such a school is established by reasoning of terminology, is a pure antidote to dispel the evil view of clinging to the duality of grasper and grasped, and has correct scriptural authority such as the Lankavatara Sutra, so it is good or excellent. However, are the realities of the various kinds of consciousness that appear truly real? Or do you readily accept them without examination? This is something to think about or examine. In this regard, the Mind-Only School believes that it is not without examination, merely the way of establishing terminology, but that in ultimate truth, consciousness is also established by its own nature, so it is truly acknowledged. Therefore, second, refuting the fault of the true establishment of consciousness includes refuting the two views of true consciousness and false consciousness. The first includes refuting the three views of half an egg, equal number of consciousnesses, and non-duality of diversity. The first includes revealing contradictions and explaining the inability to eliminate contradictions. First, if consciousness is real, then it will become many, or it will become one. Because it has contradictions, it will inevitably be different from each other. As mentioned above, when examining whether to admit only terminology or also to admit ultimate truth, if it is said that consciousness also exists in ultimate truth, then,

Now, the objects to be refuted according to the general tenets of the Cittamātra are explained. Although the mind appears to be established in the ultimate sense, those who accept these appearances as truly existing in the mind are the Sākāra-vādins (those who assert the existence of true aspects), and those who do not accept them as truly existing in the mind are the Nirākāra-vādins (those who assert the non-existence of true aspects). There are only these two, and no other way of understanding is possible. Among the Sākāra-vādins, three views arise due to the difference in the number of aspects and consciousness, which is similar to the Sautrāntika school. The Sautrāntikas assert that there are external objects that produce aspects, while the Cittamātrins consider the appearing aspect itself as the object of cognition. Apart from that, they do not accept the existence of independent external objects, which is the only difference between them. Therefore, the way these three views are presented is the same as explained earlier in the context of the Sautrāntikas, so there is no need to explain them separately here. Among these three views, the view of the "half-egg shell" school is unreasonable. If the mind and aspect are one, then it should not appear as only one indivisible aspect, because there are various aspects. Similarly, consciousness should also become many. Alternatively, if it is considered that consciousness is one, then those aspects should also become one, and should not appear as many. If it does not become like that, then one and many, and the other not being many, these two have contradictions, and must inevitably become separate. Therefore, accepting it as one is meaningless. Regarding aspects, in general, it is undeniable that they appear as many and various, not just one, and the opponent himself admits it. However, they believe that consciousness is real. If it is real, then it must be real as either one or many. The reality of many must also depend on the reality of one. If there is reality, then it is impossible to go beyond one reality, which is a general rule. Therefore, here, it is sufficient to refute the general one real consciousness simply because the aspects are many. There is no need to distinguish between simultaneous or non-simultaneous differences to refute it. Even if one consciousness cognizes one aspect sequentially, since the earlier and later aspects are not one, the consciousness that apprehends these two aspects cannot be established as one real consciousness. Here, to refute the ultimately real momentary one consciousness, as explained in the context of the Sautrāntikas, it has already been shown that even in conventional terms, individual aspects are unreasonable. That is to say, the realists believe that on a variegated external object, there are blue, yellow, etc.
