If one wants to know how it occurs in a certain way, one says "Ko." Therefore, for the view that there are many cognitions equal to the number of apprehended objects, just like blue things and easily accomplished entities, however many things there are composed of the made and impermanence, etc., that many aspects are directed to the object, and the cognition also arises as possessing that many aspects. For variegated objects, for the eye consciousness that holds it, just like blue and yellow, etc., however many aspects there are in the object, the cognition also arises as possessing that many aspects. For example, when seeing a stretched-out drawing, just like how many blue and yellow colors there are in the object, why would many minds arise simultaneously or in a certain way? This is the statement of the former's view. Here, if one examines it carefully, even though the number of cognitions arises equal to the number of parts of the object of appearance that can appear separately, for the aspects of the opposite side that are not different from the object and essence, since the appearance of the object's essence itself does not fabricate the opposite side, from the perspective of its subject, it is only distinguished by possessing that aspect. Therefore, the number of apprehended and apprehending objects are equal, or the number of consciousnesses are equal. Although these cognitions are mostly of the same type, there is no contradiction in many arising as if they were of different types. Although I think this is the case, many of the same type do not arise simultaneously. Even though there are many apprehending aspects, the self-view that there are no many of the same type has already been explained. Second, refuting it, establishing that all minds are multi-faceted, and explaining that an indivisible one is impossible to be true. First, if that is the case, white, etc., the cognition of a single aspect, since the beginning, middle, and end are different, will become many objects of focus. Just like the view that was just stated, if that is the case, just like seeing a variegated basis, there are many aspects such as blue and yellow, for its branches, white objects, etc., even the cognition that knows a single aspect, since the beginning, i.e., the top, and likewise the bottom and the opposite side, this side, the middle, and the end are different parts, it will become many objects of focus, and it is impossible for there to be a true one. Second, if one analyzes the object of focus, there is no way to focus on only one; if one analyzes the focusing consciousness, that does not exist. First, the atomistic nature of white, etc., the single nature

Without parts. Whatever appears to consciousness, I cannot perceive. Thus, if one thing has divisions into many things, then what is the single thing? It is not reasonable. If you say that there is an indivisible atom, and that it is the object of a single aspect, then, however much I try to focus and look at it, the nature of the atom, such as white, etc., is not mixed with others, and its own single nature has no parts that can be divided. Whatever appears to all consciousness, I cannot perceive what it is. In short, it is impossible to directly experience an indivisible atom anywhere. Thus, if the cause that those with discrimination accept as existing is perceived by valid cognition, then to accept that it exists even when it is not perceived is self-deception. Therefore, just as artificial printed fabrics and natural butterflies with patterns exist, so too, the various kinds of consciousness do not have a single true nature. Second: The realms of the five consciousnesses Are the aspects that focus on accumulation. The objects of mind and mental factors Are established as the sixth. Thus, the mind that possesses an object, namely, the five realms of consciousness of the senses such as the eye, are those that have the aspect of focusing on the accumulation of atoms of their respective objects, and therefore they become many aspects. Mental consciousness is also in accordance with that, because it is easy to accomplish and is the same as that. The dharma realm, namely, non-consciousness and the unconditioned, is merely imputed as not being able to exist separately, and therefore it focuses on names through the door of determination. The three aggregates of feeling, recognition, and formation are just its nature. The mind that focuses on that does not only grasp mental factors, but focuses on the collection of mind and mental factors, so the object of the combination of mind and mental factors is mental consciousness, or it is established as the sixth consciousness, or it is said to be its object. This is said according to the view of our own school. Thus, there is no consciousness that focuses on one thing. Second, refuting the tenets of the outsiders, there are two parts: a general presentation of the refutation of those with intelligence, etc., and a specific refutation of their individual assertions. First, the outer texts.
