Therefore, there is no other way of thinking besides these three. Among these three, the first is that although there are many appearances, they believe that a single consciousness arises. For example, although various appearances such as blue objects and easily established impermanent things appear, the object-possessing consciousness only produces a consciousness with a blue form. Also, for the eye consciousness that recognizes variegated colors, although the variegated object imparts appearances with various forms such as blue and yellow, the eye consciousness does not produce as many consciousnesses as there are forms, but rather produces a single eye consciousness that only recognizes variegated colors. In this way, various appearances become the nature of a single object-possessing consciousness. This view is also named "non-duality of diversity." According to the wishes of these views, the single consciousness and the appearances are not different entities. Therefore, the appearances will not change from one into many such as blue, yellow, white, and red, but must become one. If the appearances do not become many, then by the power of the various different appearances, the view that various different things such as blue and yellow exist in the external world and can be known will also disappear. For example, when seeing a stretched drawing, if the mind does not follow the various colors such as blue and yellow that exist in the drawing, then the mind will be inconsistent with the object. If that is the case, then the appearances that are the cause of assigning various appearances such as "this is blue" and "this is yellow" will also not exist. Second, because it does not leave the various appearances, it will not become a single consciousness. It is said that if one admits that there are no various appearances, then it will contradict direct perception, and eventually all expressions will be destroyed, so it is necessary to admit various appearances. If that is the case, because it does not leave the various appearances that possess the nature of many kinds, the consciousness will not become a single one, but will become many like the number of appearances. Third, if it is not like that, then how should one say that these two are one? It is said that, in short, if one admits that consciousness and appearance are one, and believes that consciousness is one and appearance is many, then either abandon the view that appearance is many, or abandon the view that consciousness is one, which can be established by the reasoning just stated. If it is not necessary to become like what was just said, then how should you say that these two, consciousness and appearance, are the same nature? Consciousness is one and appearance is many.

Therefore, if there exists a dharma that contradicts one and different, and its essence is one, then what is impossible in your system? Therefore, it should also be extended to the possibility of the son of a barren woman, etc. Second, refuting the view of the half-egg, which is divided into stating the view and refuting it. First: Regarding white and so on, consciousness arises in sequence, because it arises quickly, fools think it is instantaneous. Those who say that the aspect is one and the consciousness is one think like this: For the blue object and the impermanence, etc., which are made of the same substance of established ease, they do not establish them separately, but establish only the aspect of blue, and consciousness also arises as having only the aspect of blue. For the eye consciousness that recognizes variegated colors, the many aspects of blue, yellow, etc. of the variegated object are not established at the same time, but only the aspect of variegation is established. The object possessor also arises as having only the aspect of variegation, so it is believed that on the essence of one consciousness, there is directly one apprehended aspect and one apprehending aspect, so it is named after the reason similar to half an egg. Then, for a variegated butterfly and various patterns drawn or spread on a canvas, if the eye consciousness can perceive them simultaneously, wouldn't there be an obstacle? They say: For yellow and white, etc., the consciousness of that and that object possessor does not enter simultaneously, but separates each difference and only arises in sequence. However, it seems like perceiving in an instant, just like piercing a hundred-layered lotus petal with a needle, because the consciousness enters the object very quickly, so foolish children think that blue, yellow, etc. are perceived in an instant. For example, if you spin a torch quickly, it looks like a wheel, but the torch is just a small piece, so it is impossible to produce a continuous appearance in all directions. The reason why this happens is that the minds that perceive the torch in the previous and subsequent moments are combined, just like appearing as a wheel, they wrongly assume.
