Thus, the cause and effect of karma will not be wasted, nor will one encounter what has not been done. If there is an agent, not just a mere imputation, then if it is permanent, it cannot be the object of action, and it is unreasonable for the fruit to ripen. If it is impermanent, then the agent and the experiencer are different, so it is unreasonable to experience the ripening of karma. Therefore, the mere "I" that is imputed as one among many dharmas is both the agent and the experiencer of the ripening of karma. "I did this before, now I plant this seed, and tomorrow in the autumn I will eat it." Like this, without distinguishing the parts of time, clinging to the unexamined and unanalyzed "I", and considering the karma as one's own, is what is said. But in reality, because it is said that even the present "I" does not exist, the basis of karma and its results does not need to be found through reasoning. Regarding this, the thought "I experienced this suffering before" and "I am happy now," without distinguishing between the five aggregates of the past and the five aggregates of the present, imputing them as one, and similarly, in the beginningless and endless samsara, imputing them as one whole, thinking it is "I," in this case, after examining and analyzing the various parts such as place and time, the undifferentiated "I" alone can be the basis of karma and its results. If the parts are distinguished, then it is impossible for the cause and the result to exist simultaneously, so it is impossible to prove that the ripening will occur in the agent itself. Thus, the former agent, the present experiencer, and the future experiencer are all imputed as "I," therefore, the "I" is the imputation of one upon many. If analyzed well, it is impossible for all the aggregates of the past, present, and future to be one except for moment by moment, so in the case of analysis, imputing the agent and the experiencer as the same continuum, even if only the continuum is established, there is no contradiction in the same measure. However, even the aggregate called continuum, if analyzed, is merely an imputation. In the end, one cannot find a single truth that is not imputed upon many. In short, without admitting a truly existent person, but through the way of a person imputed as one upon many, one should understand the important meanings such as the establishment of karma and its results. Here, the basis of karma and its results refers to the ripening of karma on the one who accumulates karma, and the "I" refers to the identification and analysis of it, not the distribution of habitual tendencies, etc.

It should not be understood as a support. Secondly, refuting the truth of a single pervading universal: "Because it is related to distinct directions, how can all pervasions be one?" It is said. In general, there are two types of "pervading": one is like a general particular, which pervades many dharmas by following their nature in the manner of a single entity; the other is like color covering cloth, which pervades by existing between the ends of any dharma in the manner of different entities. Among these, the outsiders have arisen with the view of time continuum, etc., clinging to objects with the notion of greatness and infinity for all pervasive space, time, and directions. Furthermore, the Vaisheshikas, etc., believe that the universal that manifests itself or follows many particulars is a pervasive, permanent, invisible nature, and it connects and abides in the manifested objects like many cows tied with one rope. There are two types of this universal: one that pervades everything like a great universal, and one that is limited like the universal of a cow. They believe that the universal and the manifested substance are different entities. The Samkhyas believe that the universal and the manifested substance are the same entity. Whatever the pervader may be, it is refuted by this reasoning: because it is related to distinct directions, or has distinct directions, that is, it is related to different pervaded objects such as trees. Then, how can those things that are considered to be pervasive be truly one? If the pervasive objects such as space and the universal are not related to the pervaded objects that are contained by direction and time, then they cannot be established as pervasive. If they are related, then is the part that pervades the tree in the east the same as the part that pervades the tree in the west, or not? If they are the same, then the pervader is the same entity, and likewise, the pervaded manifested objects and trees that are mixed with it and inseparably related will also become non-different and become the same entity. Furthermore, if one particular pervaded object, such as a tree, grows, then trees in different places and times must also grow simultaneously, which would cause harm. If the individual parts are not the same, then how can it be a single pervader? It will increase according to the number of differences between the pervaded objects and the manifested objects. Therefore, although there are many views on the universal and the manifested, in reality, if the two are not related, then...
