What is the use of women examining that object? If their desired intention to be accomplished is sexual intercourse, just as a eunuch lacks the ability to perform sexual intercourse and cannot fulfill his wish, similarly, such a permanent object is empty of the ability to function, and even if it is acknowledged, it can never be obtained as acknowledged. Therefore, those with intelligence make distinctions of affirmation and negation regarding objects that have the ability to function, and do not accept or pursue the meaningless suffering of forced imposition. For that very reason, just as a healthy person does not need to take medicine, there is also no need to refute, so one should remain neutral. Then, haven't permanent objects been refuted before? That is to refute the wrong views of others. If others have not examined it in that way, then there is no need to refute it, so it should be known that that refutation arose due to others. Therefore, it is said that "the ability to function is the characteristic of an object," and for such an object, the establishment of the two valid cognitions, such as the selflessness of persons and phenomena, is shown without error, and the fabricated objects that are the opposite of that are refuted. Just as a woman with desire examines a man, if the ability to function is taken as the basis for examination, and it is measured by the valid cognitions of affirmation and negation, then the purpose of the man can be obtained without deception. If it is thought that only the selflessness is established on the object, so it is not shown that all phenomena are selfless, that is not correct. Because the word "all" expresses all the meaning that is intended to be expressed, and what is intended to be expressed is the object that has the ability to function. If it is thought that there is no self in the object, then why not think about it in the non-object? Because the non-object is only the negation of the object, and there is nothing else besides that, so even through conventional valid cognition, it is determined that the ability to function is empty, and there is not even a little independent establishment in the object. If it is shown that the non-object itself is an independent basis, and no affirmation or negation is made, not to mention that it is not established in the ultimate sense. Analyze the object, and call the object that is refuted the non-object. Apart from that, it is never possible for the non-object to appear independently in the mind, so how would the wise think that it exists independently?

If you don't grasp, why bother refuting it? What needs to be established? Like a barren woman's son, it is said to be left in equanimity. The terms 'non-existent' and so on exist, and they arise in dependence on things; there is no need to make separate efforts. Therefore, conventional truth is only established on things that can perform a function. Because it can perform a function, it must be momentary. Otherwise, something that is not momentary contradicts the function of sequence and otherness. This point is crucial when discussing conventional truth. Thus, by analyzing terms, for the system that holds substantial existence as conventional truth, merely imputed existents do not have an independent nature. Therefore, they do not need to be established as other entities, like a pot and the universal of a pot. Moreover, in ultimate truth, neither permanence nor impermanence is established. However, in convention, things are definitely impermanent, and the term 'permanent' is merely imputed to what is the opposite of impermanent. And it should be understood that the continuation of similar types is merely labeled as 'permanent.' Therefore, from the perspective of examining the state of affairs, all phenomena exist merely as imputed in dependence. Appearances that have the nature of dependent arising are like the moon in water, unestablished yet impossible to prevent. Therefore, nothing can be true alone. Thus, this separation from one and many refutes the truth of one at all times and in all ways. It should be understood that it does not refute the mere imputation of one in name. The mere imputation of one is merely imputing 'one' to many, and it is not established as one in reality, so it does not harm the truth of one. Similarly, distinguishing between true establishment and mere imputation is always important. Like the sound of 'sendha' (a place name), if you don't understand how to directly distinguish the meaning, then whatever teachings you give or receive, your mind will be entangled like grass and nothing will be clear. So you must distinguish. Second, refuting the true existence of a single person: Not moment by moment, the person cannot be shown, from the nature of one and many, separate, know clearly and thoroughly. Thus it is said. Regarding this, sentient beings who pass from one life to another and are the basis for the imputation of bondage and liberation.
