Regarding the refutation of permanent and substantial entities, it is divided into two parts: briefly indicating the reasoning for refutation and extensively explaining the reasoning. First: 'By the wisdom arising from meditation, even for the school that claims knowable unconditioned phenomena, they are not singular, because they are related to sequential knowledge.' Thus it is said. The Vaibhashika school of our own tradition considers the three unconditioned phenomena to be permanent and substantial entities. These are space, and that which is not eliminated by the power of discrimination, but because the conditions of its own nature are incomplete, for that which is not produced, the aspect of its non-production is the unconditioned non-discriminative cessation that obstructs the production of that entity, which they consider to be real. Also, by the power of cultivating the path, the aspect of abandoning afflictions is eliminated by discrimination, which they cling to as real. Among these three, here, by negating the one truth of discriminative cessation, by the same reasoning, the other two also establish the refutation of singularity. To this, the Vaibhashikas say: 'The object of the direct perception of yoga that arises from the power of meditation, the unconditioned discriminative cessation that is separate from all the characteristics of conditioned phenomena, is ultimately real.' Because it is the supreme object of the knowledge of yogis, it is ultimately real, but its inherent abiding is merely known by the knowledge of yogis. It does not generate a mind that focuses on itself, because producing results is the nature of conditioned phenomena, and this is unconditioned. They say this, thinking that being an object does not only transform into the nature of a cause. Therefore, even though the object unconditioned phenomenon is known by sequential knowledge, it is not related to knowledge, so the nature of discriminative cessation itself constantly abides as the nature of unconditioned phenomena. To this, as follows: 'By the direct perception of yoga arising from meditation, for the school that believes that the knowable discriminative cessation unconditioned phenomenon is truly established, if analyzed with reason, then the object unconditioned phenomenon is not singularly true, because those object unconditioned phenomena are related to sequential knowledge, and to the knowable and the knower.' Thus it is said. The word 'also' indicates that permanent and substantial entities can produce results such as pots.

Not only is the doctrine of the outsiders refuted, but also the doctrine of the Vaibhashikas, who believe that although they do not produce results, they are permanent by nature, also has its unreasonableness. Therefore, combined with the aforementioned viewpoints, whether it produces results or does not produce results, etc., no matter what the situation is, it is absolutely impossible for there to be permanence, reality, oneness, or truth, thus exerting the power of this sentence. In this regard, in the opponent's view, if the object itself is permanent or one true, then the consciousness of the subject is not inherently related to the object, but only related as the knowable and the knower. Therefore, how can the power of the subject make the object become impermanent and numerous? They think this way. This is the same as the self-sect believing that the nature of Dharma is permanent, and the other sects believing that phenomena such as vases are permanent until the cause of destruction occurs, etc. All views that consider the object to be permanent have the same intention. For example, just like the vase seen yesterday and the vase seen today, although the consciousness of the subject is different, they cling to the idea that the object is the same vase. Therefore, if the subjects are different, then the object will not truly become one. Therefore, it is necessary to explain the reasons in detail. The second part explains the reasons in detail, that is, if the object of the previous consciousness follows the subsequent consciousness, it is unreasonable; if it does not follow, it is also unreasonable, thus refuting it. First: The nature of what is known by the previous consciousness, if it follows, the previous consciousness also, turns into the latter, the latter also is like that, turns into the former. It is said. In this regard, for you who believe that unconditioned phenomena are permanent, is the unconditioned phenomenon that has become the object of the previous consciousness the same as the object of the subsequent consciousness? Ask this question. In this regard, they have already admitted that the object, the unconditioned phenomenon, exists, and that there is no other valid cognition other than what is cognized by consciousness, and that what is cognized by consciousness pervades the sequential. For the sequential, there is no other admission other than the previous object following or not following the subsequent object. Therefore, according to the first situation, they admit, like this: The nature of the unconditioned phenomenon, which is the object known by the previous consciousness, is exactly what the subsequent consciousness follows, or it also exists at the time of the subsequent consciousness, and is cognized by it. If this is the case, then since it is cognized by the one that has no difference in the object, the mind that clings to it should not have any difference, because what is the object
