The way in which things, as stated by those debaters, are established as being separate from the truth of "one," has been revealed by the verses mentioned earlier. To this, some non-Buddhists assert that the nature of Ishvara (自在天) and others is permanent, but it is not like space and other things that do not function; rather, they acknowledge it as something that functions. They imagine that the cause, Ishvara and others, being unchanging in the three times, constantly creates these container and content worlds, just as a potter makes a clay pot. However, it is impossible for the things of the container and content worlds to arise simultaneously, so there is no way to avoid acknowledging their sequential nature, as they appear sequentially. Therefore, why does the cause that you consider to be permanent not produce these effects all at once, but rather appears to connect or produce them in a sequential manner, one after another? Therefore, the permanent things such as Ishvara, which are acknowledged as causes, are not true in their single nature. Thus it is said. If the permanent, single, indivisible particle of "one" produces all these effects, then that cause must possess the complete ability to produce all the effects, without any deficiency. Then, why do all the effects, such as happiness, suffering, equanimity, etc., not arise simultaneously? If the cause is not complete, the effect will not arise, and if the power of the cause is unobstructed, how could the effect be missed? If it is missed, it will not follow the cause's actions, and therefore it cannot be considered its effect. To this, they say: The effects do not arise simultaneously, but are due to the influence of various cooperative conditions. If something is permanent, it is impossible to change from one state, so it is not appropriate to rely on cooperative causes, because the conditions cannot change it, just as painting the sky. If it relies and can be changed, then permanence is lost. If it is allowed to rely, is there a difference between the permanent thing when it is combined with cooperative conditions and the permanent thing when it is separated from cooperative conditions? If there is a difference, then permanence is lost. If there is no difference, then the latter's cooperative conditions should be the same as the former's.

Just like those beings who have no way to separate, being tied by a rope around their necks, are forcibly dragged, from their (original) state, the result of the karma previously created, because there is no incomplete cause, so it will never change. In this way, if the co-acting auxiliary cause is named as the power of the permanent cause such as Ishvara, and it is said that they sequentially produce the results, this is also refuted. If the self-nature and power of it (the permanent cause such as Ishvara) are different, then the co-acting cause is only given the name of power. If they are not different, then as just said, (it will be subject to) the harm of the result never changing, etc. Therefore, once it is admitted that (the permanent cause) will sequentially produce results, it should be known that no permanent cause can exist alone. Once the before and after are not alone, it can be determined that it is not permanent. Furthermore, those people see that the faults just mentioned are unavoidable, (so they think that) the cause is permanent, but not unique. If it is thought that for each result, the self-nature of those causes also exists in other and different ways sequentially, then why would those things of Ishvara, etc., not disappear from the permanent state? Because they will change in different states. It is said so. To this, the other party (retorts): Even if it is not a whole, but as long as the self-nature or continuum is the same, then even if the states are different, what contradiction is there in being permanent? For example, just like in the world, even if participating in various dances, it is considered that the morning dancer and the afternoon dancer are the same person. Analyzing this, if it is not unique and without parts, then permanence is unreasonable. Therefore, the first half of the verse negates the truth of the "one" that is considered permanent, and the second half negates the permanence of what is not "one." There are many explanations for this, but only this one does not mistake the meaning of the scripture. Therefore, self-nature and continuum are like a naming of similarities, but it can never be proven that there is a real "one." If it is a real "one," then it cannot escape the previous faults. And only the nominal "one" is not negated here. Because it does not exist in essence, it cannot be considered permanent. Therefore, once the states are different, it is not alone. Therefore, it is never possible to separate it and consider it separately as a permanent "one." Second, established by our own school
