Therefore, this life is designated as illusion and used as an example. In general, since both things and consciousness are proven to be unreal, it is not possible to prove that the cause is real. Even if we temporarily allow the cause, form, and consciousness to be considered real, it cannot make the false object of perception real. For example, even if an illusion deceives the eyes, those who know it is an illusion, although there is an appearance of illusion, they will never think that there are horses, cows, etc. there. Similarly, because there are causes such as clay, eye consciousness, and illusionists, one would not think that it is real. Therefore, the object of perception itself directly appears to be real, but by comparing it to something that knows it is not as it appears, the example is not invalid. These are all clearly explained from the self-commentary. Secondly, the way to establish the root argument includes: establishing the subject-property and establishing pervasion. The first point is further divided into establishing the absence of a real single entity and establishing the absence of real multiple entities. The first point is further divided into negating the pervasive single entity and negating the non-pervasive single entity. The first point is further divided into negating a specific pervasive thing as a real single entity and negating a universal pervasive thing such as space as a real single entity. The first point is further divided into negating a permanent entity as a real single entity and negating a person as a single real entity. The first point is further divided into negating the permanent entity posited by other schools and negating the permanent entity posited by one's own school. There are three conclusions to such negation. First: Because of the sequentially connected fruits, permanent things are not of a single nature. If each fruit is different, then they will disappear from permanence. It is said. In general, as mentioned above, the argument of the absence of single and multiple entities is established on the knowable things and subjects spoken of by self and other schools, which is called the first way, namely the subject-property. If there is an argument of the absence of single and multiple entities, then there must be the unreality to be proven, which is called the second way, namely the concomitance. If there is no unreality to be proven, then the argument of the absence of single and multiple entities will also disappear, which is called the third way, namely the counter-concomitance. Thus, since there is a special relationship of concomitance and counter-concomitance between the thing to be proven and the argument, the argument necessarily has pervasion, which can establish the dharma to be proven, which is called pervasion. The argument with established pervasion on any knowable thing and subject...

If it is accomplished by valid cognition, then the meaning to be proven is accomplished by it, and there will be no deception. Therefore, the extremes of more or less, such as the two dharmas and the six dharmas, are also avoided. Therefore, it is said that meaning can be seen from the three-aspect reasoning. As it is said in the scriptures: 'The pervading dharma is the dharma that pervades.' Therefore, when establishing the fundamental reason, the saying 'one and many are separate' is to explain the order of how the reason is established on the dharmas spoken by one's own and other schools. Therefore, do not think that this reason is not established in the old commentaries on this point. It is said like this. If you want to know how it is established, first you must establish the separation of the one true aspect. Because if one is not established, many cannot be established, and the basis of many is one, so first you must establish one. In general, if there is something that is absolutely established as true within the category of knowable objects, then there is no distinction between appearing and not appearing, and it must be the nature of oneness, existing in all directions and times. If this is the case, then ultimately all knowable objects included in the directions and times will not appear separately, but must become a whole like the sky. If this is not the case, but the various appearances of directions and times appear immeasurably and very clearly, then these appearances are only appearances because there is no essential point of being one and true. Therefore, whatever appears, whether it is a knowable object that includes samsara and nirvana, it is impossible for there to be a situation where the reasoning of one and many separations does not apply. Therefore, here, in order to show the way in which the reason is established on the dharmas spoken by oneself and others, from the perspective of the outline, it can be summarized as either permanent and impermanent, or external objects and internal consciousness, or objects of knowledge and knowing consciousness. But here, in the Difficult Commentary, it says: 'Pervasiveness is self and space, etc. Impermanent dharmas are all classified into non-pervasive aggregates.' As it is said, it is summarized by these two. For those who advocate permanent dharmas and the existence of self, if these are distinguished in different realms, then it cannot be absolutely assumed that they belong to the category of pervasiveness. In the Self-Commentary, pervasiveness and non-pervasiveness are only mentioned in terms of the verses such as 'different directions,' which clearly shows that pervasiveness is in terms of its definition. Therefore, pervasiveness is the first category among the various particulars, namely the non-Buddhists who advocate permanent dharmas.
