That which the Thus-gone One explained as the four great elements and so forth, that is, including what is produced, if it is thought that these things are not separate from consciousness, but exist as appearances of those very cognitions, then they are included in consciousness. The latter two lines say, if it is thought that the elements are external, or not external, but are the nature of consciousness, in any case they exist in reality, then the nature of that cognition is separated and abandoned from the face of the wisdom of knowing. Because they do not appear in true wisdom, is this not just a false conceptualization? The two ways are the tradition of the great chariot, in the treatises that establish one way as the tenet, whoever follows properly will obtain the excellent supreme vehicle Dharma kingship. If one echoes the words of others, whether it is so or not, that may suit the minds of those who are biased, but for those who honestly explain this excellent chariot treatise, please forgive those who are displeased. This is just an intermediate verse. Fifth, regarding the necessity, how does certainty arise about the meaning of all the Great Vehicle? What is meant by "easily"? How does one attain great enlightenment through it? Generally, a vehicle is the name for a means that connects liberation, enlightenment, and the three. Among them, the seven great superiorities that surpass the Lesser Vehicle are the tenets of Madhyamaka and Cittamatra. Among them, Madhyamaka and Cittamatra, not favoring one of the two, but integrating the intentions of both into one, that is complete. The way to generate certainty about these meanings is, in general, through the wisdom of familiarity and experience, one connects with the ultimate result. And the indispensable cause of these is the wisdom of thought that obtains certainty after proper investigation. And the cause of that is hearing well-spoken treatises. However, merely hearing treatises, or merely being interested in their meaning, is not enough to traverse the stages of the path. Because one must generate proper certainty about the true meaning, thereby abandoning the inverted bad conceptualizations in one's own continuum. Therefore, if one follows the meaning of the Buddha's words purified by the three examinations, this path established by valid reasoning, then a special confidence will arise in oneself, not relying on others, nor being led by others.

With the great light of wisdom that cannot be turned back, one sees the great path by which the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, have gone and followed, and enters into it irreversibly. Regarding this, it is not merely based on the words of others, nor merely on faith, but rather, one gains conviction through the power of one's own reasoning, which means one does not need to rely on others or the power of others, and attains independence, which is called not relying on others. Because of the reason for gaining faith through knowledge, even the demons and all opponents cannot turn the direction to another path, which is called being unturnable by others. Such a person who possesses the eye of wisdom gains a definitive understanding of the true Dharma that is superior to others, and refutes the untrue, non-Dharma aspects, gaining the power of wisdom to distinguish between Dharma and non-Dharma, just as a clear-eyed person sees forms. Thus, the Protector Maitreya also said, "One who has the intention to analyze the good Dharma with reason, constantly has no obstacles from demons. Gaining distinction and refuting the views of others are the characteristics of being unseizable and fully ripened." Thus it is said. Therefore, all true paths are cultivated after knowing and seeing them, but if one cultivates and connects to the fruit without gaining one's own definitive understanding, then a pure path is impossible, one should know this. Therefore, this principle is the essence of reasoning in the treatises of the two valid cognitions. If one grasps this key point, then with this, one will effortlessly and naturally understand and have faith in all the profound and vast teachings of the Great Vehicle of the Buddha, and wisdom will arise from all directions, like a small spark spreading in a forest. Such a treatise, which is established by reason as superior to all, is also established by scripture, as in the Lankavatara Sutra, the meaning of the five Dharmas mentioned above is extensively explained in that treatise, and at the end it says, "Whoever measures this principle with reason, is diligent in yoga with faith and does not discriminate, and relies on the meaning without abiding, should practice the form of Dharma like gold." Such words mean that there has never been a treatise like this that combines the two principles and establishes them with reason, therefore, this treatise is praised for its greatness with reasonable reasoning.
