Regarding the Ālayavijñāna of the Mahāsāṃghika school, why is it not acknowledged? I believe it is acknowledged. So, in terms of subtle mental aspects, what is it to refer to Ālayavijñāna in mantras and so on? What is it to be different from the six consciousnesses? In this regard, even if the mind is divided, if it possesses the characteristics described for Ālayavijñāna, such as the consciousness that can hold habitual imprints in the manner of a support and what is supported, then, Even if the mind is made subtle, it does not actually go beyond the scope of Ālayavijñāna, it is merely a name. If it does not possess the characteristics of Ālayavijñāna, like calling a horse an ox, it is merely a name and there is no need for it. What does it mean to be different from the six consciousnesses? Is it referring to the essence or the distinction? If it is the former, does it mean a different continuum, or different functions, etc.? If it refers to a consciousness with a different continuum from the six consciousnesses, then not only the Madhyamaka school, but no Mind-Only school that holds such a view would accept it, because if the consciousnesses are not of the same continuum merely in the essence of consciousness, then one person would have two consciousness continuums. If there are no different functions, etc., then what is the use of establishing it? Because there is no need for it. If we consider the distinction merely in terms of convention, then it is enough to not have Ālayavijñāna, because the term "different from the six consciousnesses" has no clear boundary, so saying it has no meaning, because even if it is merely a distinction, if it is not established as different from the six consciousnesses, then what is called Ālayavijñāna? Because Ālayavijñāna and the six consciousnesses are not different even in the established conventions. Just stating the aspects of investigation, please think fairly. In this regard, we believe that this abbot also acknowledges the eight consciousnesses. If there is no actual harm from sticks, etc., then it is not thought that rational harm will occur. In this way, in order to need to accept the five wisdoms of the eight consciousnesses' transformation, this doctrine is very beautiful for the general doctrine of the Mahayana, merely in terms of convention, for the afflicted mind and the various individual consciousnesses, the consciousness that is not biased, merely the essence of clear awareness, there is a mind that holds the habitual imprints of beginningless time, which is not only not contradictory, but is also established by reason as necessary to exist. However, it is not truly established as the dependent nature that is the basis of imputation, so it should be understood that the refutations of Chandrakirti and others are also like that, that is, self-awareness and

The reasoning that refutes the ālaya-vijñāna applies to all Mind-Only schools that consider self-awareness to be truly established. It should be understood that it does not apply in any way to schools that merely acknowledge the ālaya-vijñāna and self-awareness as nominal terms. For example, the reasoning that refutes the true establishment of all aggregates, elements, sense-fields, paths, and fruits does not harm the Madhyamaka school's acceptance of the arrangement of aggregates and elements, and paths and fruits, as mere nominalities. It should be understood that things like the permanent and substantial self spoken of by non-Buddhists are impossible even nominally. In short, if something is proven to exist in the face of nominal valid cognition, then no one can deny it nominally. If nominal valid cognition is harmful, then no one can prove that it exists nominally. Similarly, if something is proven to be non-existent by ultimate valid cognition, then no one can prove that it exists ultimately, and that is the nature of things. Such discernment is very important for the Mahāyāna sūtras and tantras in general. Therefore, not only in the sūtras but also in the tantras, all appearances are determined to be self-appearances, and those self-appearances are also determined to be the nature of mind, great bliss. In short, this treatise shows the key points that are the root of the views held by all Mahāyāna sūtras and tantras. As the Buddha said, all Mahāyāna is included in the five dharmas, three natures, etc., and all Mahāyānists think so. However, the path of how to practice these is the chariot-way opened only by this teacher, so this treatise is very important. Although he considers things to exist nominally and applies reasoning in the form of svatantrika-hetu, and elaborates on the ultimate truth in terms of names, and thus is counted as a svatantrika teacher, one should not think that his view is inferior to the prāsaṅgika, because he opened the tradition of the union of the two truths, which is in accordance with the essential point of the union of the two truths in reality, the un abiding realm, so there is no difference. Therefore, the view of glorious Chandrakirti is that all these appearances are directly pure in themselves, and the profound view of the dissolution of nominal falsities into the realm is the same as the way of determining primordial purity in the Dzogchen treatises, and therefore it is actually the self-tradition of the vidyādhara lineage, so even I, the inferior one, am the same.
