Even though I pray in this way, a treatise like this is the great common path of the Mahayana. It combines the intent of the treatises of the two great chariot traditions into one stream. In particular, it gathers into the great ocean of reason how the glorious Nagarjuna understood the valid cognition of ultimate truth and how the glorious Dharmakirti understood the valid cognition of conventional truth, blending them into one taste. Ultimately, this treatise delivers one to the great Madhyamaka state free from the four extremes of elaboration. This treatise is complete with all the profound and essential points explained by the great chariots, such as the Six Ornaments, without lacking anything. Therefore, why should not all those who hold partial views commonly revere this great and unparalleled excellent explanation on earth and strive to enter it from all directions? Therefore, this is the ocean that gathers the great intent of the Buddha Bhagavan and all the traditions of the supreme chariots. What need is there to speak of abiding in a single session of meditative experience that accords with the realm of reality? Even during the time of listening and contemplation, if one does not grasp the essential points of the extremely subtle reasoning of refutation and establishment, it is difficult to be effective by merely boasting of "consequence." Therefore, one should become skilled in grasping the essential points of Madhyamaka through the path of such a treatise. Therefore, if one becomes well-versed in a treatise like this, one will obtain the name and meaning of "Madhyamaka-pramana, lion's necks intertwined," as it is known in Tibet. Only this treatise bestows the supreme state of the great sovereign who speaks of the unparalleled excellent explanation of the two valid cognitions of truth, one aiding the other. Even in India, this is the only treatise. Why? Because there is nothing else to be sought other than this single supreme treatise that gathers the essential points of reason from the various chariot traditions into one. Thus, how does the treatise explain the meaning of the two truths? It is clearly explained by the summary of the treatise's explanation, and that is the meaning of the beginning and end of this treatise. If someone thinks, "Is this way of establishing the two truths the assertion of Master Nagarjuna?" It is indeed so. In the Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning, it says: "The explanation of the great elements, etc., is also truly in consciousness. Knowing that, one will be liberated, not a distorted discrimination."
