Are these phenomena merely of the nature of mind and mental factors? Or if they are of the nature of external objects? To this, teachers like Legden 'byed and others assert that they are of the nature of external objects, saying that the term "mind-only" in the sutras is to negate the agent and the enjoyer. Although it is said so, other than that, in this treatise, even what becomes cause and effect is considered to be nothing other than consciousness alone, without any external objects existing separately. Whatever is established by consciousness itself clearly experiencing it is what abides in consciousness, and it is not reasonable otherwise. In this regard, whatever appears and is known is not different from the experience of consciousness itself. Having abandoned the nature established by one's own clear experience, the way of conceiving other things is never possible. If it were possible, then one would have to conceive while being separated from clarity and awareness, and if separated from clarity and awareness, then it would not be possible to be consciousness itself. Therefore, it is not possible for consciousness to be non-existent while the appearance of objects is existent. Thus, it is established that whatever is experienced is consciousness itself, just like the forms of dreams and illusions. Even if external objects such as forms could exist separately from the alaya-consciousness, they would not be established by direct perception because there is no cause for connection, whether simultaneous or non-simultaneous, just like the eyes and so on. Therefore, experiencing blue and so on is experiencing the nature that is not different from consciousness, just like experiencing the forms of dreams and so on. If it is said that experiencing appearances must be consciousness, but the producer of the appearance must have an external object, so it is inferred, then in that case, even without external objects such as atoms, it can be inferred, therefore, the existence of external objects is not reasonable. Even according to the way of inferring existence, it is only inference for hidden things that cannot be established by direct perception. The inference without external objects and the direct experience established by the mind itself are very powerful, and other sides cannot take them away. By doing so, it is also in accordance with sutras such as the Gandavyuha Sutra, the Samdhinirmocana Sutra, and the Lankavatara Sutra. Therefore, when distinguishing post-meditation, for the Madhyamikas, in terms of convention, other extremes are eliminated from the two cases of accepting and not accepting external objects.

Relying solely on the mind, one can know that external objects are unreal. Relying on this reasoning, one can also know that the mind is without self-nature. Thus it is said. All these appearances, relying on the reasoning that they are only mind and there is no external reality, one can know that external objects are unreal. Then, relying on the reasoning of being separated from one and many as mentioned before, one can also know that the mind is extremely without self-nature, abandoning all extremes, and is the very nature of the Middle Way that is free from elaboration. Thus, in the chapter "Transcending the World," it is said: "O sons of the Victorious Ones! The three realms are understood as only mind, and the three times are also understood as equal to mind. That mind is also understood to be without beginning, end, and middle." What is said here can be well explained, because one knows all appearances of directions and times as mind, and the mind also knows that there is no beginning or end of arising and ceasing, and no middle of the characteristic of present abiding, and is free from extremes. In the "Compendium of True Dharma," it is also said: "Bhagavan, all dharmas are the essence of complete imputation, they are only mind, there is no substance, like illusion, there is no root." And in the "Perfection of Wisdom Sutra," it is said: "Thus, the mind is not mind, the nature of mind is luminosity." Thus it is said. Second, praising that. Divided into two: brief explanation and detailed explanation. First: Those who ride the chariot of two principles, holding the reins of reason, they therefore, with the meaning as it is, attain the name of the Great Vehicle practitioner. Thus it is said. Thus, the principle of conventional mind-only, and the principle of ultimate Madhyamaka, these two principles are combined on the path, riding on the great chariot, without abandoning the reins of reason of the measure that distinguishes the two truths—immaculate wisdom, those who hold them, because they abide in the rare and good principle, they can obtain the name of the Great Vehicle practitioner who possesses the meaning as it is. Among them, the Buddha's Great Vehicle is of two kinds, namely profound and vast. What teaches them are also the teachings that teach the tenets of Madhyamaka and Mind-Only. What explains their intention are Nagarjuna and Asanga, namely the tradition of the two chariots.
