It is said that this approach is not only the view of the Prasangika school, but also the view of the great chariot schools that arise from the Mahayana sutras. Among them, although the view that only the afflictive obscurations are abandoned in the impure seven grounds has also appeared in Tibet, since there is the wisdom of realizing the two antidotes of selflessness, why would the cognitive obscurations not be removed? The Madhyantavibhāga states: "Ignorance in the realm of phenomena, non-afflictive obscurations are ten, the opposing factors of the ten grounds, those antidotes are the grounds." As such, one should know as it is said in all the scriptures and treatises, how many cognitive obscurations are to be abandoned by each of the ten grounds. There, that school also asserts that the removal of cognitive obscurations begins from the eighth ground, and that the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, the Arhats, have completely realized the selflessness of phenomena and have already abandoned all the afflictive obscurations. To this, other scholars have refuted: If that is the case, then when the Hearers and Solitary Realizers enter the Mahayana, when they obtain the antidote wisdom in the impure seven grounds, there will be nothing to be abandoned, and it will also be impossible to establish what the uninterrupted path of that ground is an antidote to, and what the path of liberation is liberated from. Furthermore, what is to be abandoned by the Bodhisattva who, with the limitless means of great compassion, becomes accustomed to selflessness for two countless eons? If the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, without means, are able to remove it in three lifetimes, etc., then in terms of attaining Buddhahood, the Hinayana would be faster than the Mahayana. Many such analyses have been made. All the former and latter views are wise, therefore, one should watch the way of competing in the art of reasoning with unbiased wisdom, in a way that appreciates the wonder. Thus, the two obscurations of affliction and knowledge are not completely separate, and the two antidotes of selflessness should not be confused. To this, the venerable Rongzompa Chenpo said: If one examines whether the afflictions to be abandoned of all suffering are one or different, if they are one, then the later antidote is meaningless; if they are different, then one must abandon as many different afflictions as there are realms, beings, and phenomena, therefore it is thought that it is impossible to abandon them. It should be explained in this way: Afflictions arise from the place of clinging to self, towards the objects of clinging to things and characteristics.

As long as those exist, as many objects as there are, that many afflictions will arise. In a place of clinging to self, since there is no magician, his illusory afflictions will not arise either. Therefore, those afflictions are liberated from one and different. Therefore, in order to tame those hearers who cling to the self-nature and general characteristics of phenomena, the distinctions of explaining by summarizing samsara as cause and effect and nirvana as cause and effect, and dividing them into the four noble truths, are merely distinguishing both wisdom and afflictions by focusing on the object. In reality, all wisdom is also one, which is the wisdom of realizing the selflessness of all phenomena. All afflictions are also one, which is the delusion of ignorance about self. Therefore, wisdom that focuses on individuals does not eliminate afflictions, but wisdom that focuses on phenomena can eliminate them through the power of cutting off perverse elaborations, but it cannot eliminate them through the aspect of seeing reality. So, if the hearers abide in the ground with objects and have not separated from seeing reality, how can they eliminate afflictions and attain enlightenment? To that, it will be taught thus: Although the hearers want to eliminate afflictions and attain the unconditioned from their own tenets, in the Great Vehicle, it is believed that the person whose substance of afflictions has been exhausted, whose latent tendencies have not been exhausted, and who has not passed away from the aggregates of fruition, is one who has abandoned all bonds in the three realms and is called the one who obstructs the life of sentient beings' karma. As it is said in the Net of Illusory Transformation of Vairocana: Abandoning means and wisdom, Manifestly clinging to external objects, How can the inferior vehicle practitioners, Attain the unsurpassed enlightenment? As an answer to this, two kinds of enlightenment are taught: With remainder and without remainder, With remainder is the nature of aggregates, All the defilements of afflictions are completely burned, Without remainder is the nature of no habitual tendencies, Like the sky, it is immaculate and pure. Such is the aspect of enlightenment, The Victorious Ones taught with skillful means. It should be understood as such. Furthermore, it is said that enlightenment is knowing exhaustion and non-arising, and that the one distinguished by the unconditioned is the noble one. So, enlightenment
