Wisdom that sees reality as it is is accomplished through the joint cause of skillful means and great compassion. Not knowing the nature of what is to be known as it is, is the obscuration of what is to be known, and its essence is ignorance. In contrast to this, cultivating the wisdom that realizes the absence of self in phenomena, etc., as discussed in the previous section, establishes that the wisdom of omniscience arises from causes. The nature of unerring cause and effect establishes the teacher as a reliable person through the power of reality. As it is said: The one who has become a measure, who desires to benefit beings, the teacher, the Sugata, the protector, I prostrate to him. Secondly, it is impossible to have the result of all-knowingness, because all that is to be known is infinite. If one knows the infinite, one will find the end, and that will become wrong knowledge. There is no mind that knows the infinite, just as the sky cannot be measured. To that, it is not that one sees the infinite by measuring it as this is the end. Just as saying that the sky pervades everything, it is possible for the infinite to pervade, so all that is to be known is known effortlessly and with equal taste. However, the way of knowing transcends all mundane realms. Knowing without conceptualization, and the way of generating certainty about the way of knowing the three times, are explained somewhat differently. Here, if one only establishes omniscience through conventional truth, then anyone who shows the main thing to be sought, the entry and exit of the four truths of the path without error, is called omniscient, just as one says a collection of all medicines and a collection of all people. Other unnecessary things, such as the number of insects, are of no use to those who seek liberation, so even if the teacher knows them, what is the use of showing them all to the disciples? Even if they are shown, they do not have the ability to retain them. Therefore, we acknowledge that the teacher who shows the path established by the power of reality is the teacher who knows all the purposes of beings. By inferring from this, it is certain that he also knows all other knowable things, because whoever knows the ultimate meaning of what is deep and subtle can undoubtedly understand what is gross, just as there is no doubt that the eye that sees distant fine particles sees the nearby vase. These with liberation and all

In order to attain the path and fruit of omniscience, I have followed in the footsteps of Dharmakirti, the master of logic, and have slightly arranged the discussions of the previous scholars. In general, refuting other schools such as the Tirthikas is not merely for the sake of engaging in verbal debates. Rather, it is to recognize that the wrong views of the Tirthikas and others also exist within oneself. Then, through the immaculate reasoning of refutation and establishment, one should dispel the habitual tendencies and negative thoughts in one's own mindstream. Just as the meaning of the verse "The wise subdue other systems with wisdom" and so on, it is important to generate unwavering faith in one's own path and teacher, which is something to be contemplated. In short, the root cause of cutting off the root of samsara and attaining liberation and omniscience is the immaculate wisdom that discerns the two truths. And wisdom does not arise without study and practice, as if it fell from the sky or emerged from the ground. Therefore, those who seek liberation should, with a mind of bodhicitta, first analyze all internal and external phenomena as being either one or different, and through valid inference, generate a definite understanding that things are empty of inherent existence. This definite understanding and the superimposition of mistaken conceptions on things are as opposed as light and darkness, so the definite understanding can cut off the superimpositions that are to be abandoned. If one meditates without definite understanding, it is like a blind person measuring an elephant, unable to grasp the true nature of things. Therefore, meditation must be combined with definite understanding. I prostrate with folded hands at all times to all beings who dwell in the ten directions, and pray that definite wisdom may be free from doubt. If one is without definite wisdom, it is difficult to realize the true meaning. If one is without valid reasoning, one cannot generate definite understanding. This is the essential instruction that those who seek liberation should keep in their hearts. Therefore, cutting off doubt is the fruit of hearing and thinking, and gaining certainty is the fruit of meditation. If these two fruits are lacking, then teaching and practice are merely superficial. Incidentally, I will discuss definite understanding and superimposition for the reference of the wise.
