The ten non-obscurations. The antidotes to the opposing factors of the ten grounds are the grounds themselves. Thus it is said. These ignorances are not to be abandoned as afflictions by the Hearers, for not having abandoned them, it is not the time to enter the antidote ground, and because they do not obscure liberation alone. It should be known that the afflictions of the Bodhisattvas are to be abandoned, for they are obstacles to omniscience. Why is the first ground called "Joyful"? Because it is joyful since it is only at the beginning that one obtains the ability to accomplish the benefit of oneself and others. The Hearer Stream-enterer only obtains self-benefit, so it is not called "Joyful" at the beginning. Similarly, on the second ground, it is called "Immaculate" because the stain of immoral conduct is completely removed. On the third, it is the "Illuminating" ground because it is a place where meditation and absorption do not decline, and it becomes a place of great manifestation of the Dharma, such as the Sutras. On the fourth ground, it is the "Blazing Wisdom" ground because all obscurations are burned away by the Dharmas of the path to enlightenment. On the fifth ground, it is the "Very Difficult to Train" ground because the ultimate truth and the worldly knowledge of conventional crafts, etc., are mutually incompatible, and it is difficult to accomplish them. On the sixth ground, it is called the "Manifest" ground because it is the place of knowing dependent origination, and it manifests dwelling in the Perfection of Wisdom. On the seventh ground, it is the "Gone Afar" ground because it goes to the end of the conduct arising from effortful application. On the eighth ground, it is the "Immovable" ground because it is not moved by any signs or conceptual elaborations. On the ninth ground, it is said that one knows the individual correct knowledge, knows all the words of the Dharma, is skilled in the manner of all meanings, knows how to distinguish all languages, and is endowed with fearlessness in all directions. It is called the "Good Intelligence" ground because it is obtained at the beginning. On the tenth ground, all Dharmas are not separate but are focused on the combination of all, knowing all Dharmas, the doors of dharani and samadhi, like water, all are within, like clouds. Like the sky, the vast realm is covered by the two obscurations, which are removed, and like clouds covering the sky, that wisdom also completely fills the Dharmakaya, the place of the accumulation of qualities.

Because it is complete, it is called the cloud of Dharma. So how should one view the attainment of these grounds? It is viewed in four ways: In terms of attaining faith and understanding, one believes in the teachings that explain the ten grounds as they are, simply because of faith and understanding. In terms of attaining practice, it is because one practices the teachings that are fully in accordance with the grounds, and attains the ten grounds. The ten practices of the teachings are: writing, making offerings, giving, listening, reading, holding, explaining, reciting, contemplating, and meditating. In terms of attaining realization, one realizes the Dharmadhatu on the first ground, and on all grounds, one also realizes the object of realization of all Dharmadhatus that are similar in kind to this completeness, because of realization. In terms of attaining accomplishment, it is because one goes to the culmination of the meditation of these grounds. So how should one view the meditation of these grounds? Here, when a Bodhisattva meditates on Shamatha and Vipassana on each ground, they meditate in five ways. What are the five? They are: meditating on the blending of all Dharmas into one taste in the Dharmadhatu, and also meditating on it as being without characteristics, and also meditating on it as being spontaneously accomplished without effort, meditating on blazing as the meaning of excellence, that is, meditating on going into differentiation, and also meditating on not clinging to being satisfied with just the meditation of one's own ground. Through these five meditations, Bodhisattvas are able to manifestly accomplish five fruits, namely: in this way, in each moment, they destroy the abodes of the bad migrations, all the Alaya consciousness, and having separated from the various concepts of self, other, Dharma, and Buddha, etc., they obtain the joy of delighting in the Dharmata, and the appearance of Dharmas as they are and as many as there are, in all directions, these are immeasurable and countless in kind, and they know perfectly without interruption, without intentionally discriminating, the part of spontaneously obtaining the pure fruit, the characteristics corresponding to this, without discriminating the Buddhas and Chakravartins, white umbrellas, etc., all arise from this. Seventh, the ultimate fruit, the Dharmakaya, is complete, and in order to be completely accomplished on the tenth and eleventh grounds, the higher one completely holds the cause of the highest one, these five fruits correspond to the five meditations in sequence. Seventh, in general, on each ground also
