Thinking about how the realm of Zen arises, it's like the moon in water, not as clear as the water itself, but showing meaning like an image in a mirror. If there is no meaning, in order to dispel the doubts of those non-inverted Bodhisattvas who might wonder how to accomplish the benefit of sentient beings, it is shown that holding a body and so on is just like an emanation. From what consideration did the Blessed One, when asked by Brahma, state: 'The Thus-gone One does not fixate on samsara, nor does he fixate on nirvana'? Because the nature of other-power is the nature of the completely imputed and the perfectly established, if one fixates on samsara, then what is its nirvana? Because there is no difference between samsara and nirvana, it is from this consideration that it is shown. Just like this, the nature of other-power, the dharma of the completely imputed is samsara. The dharma of the perfectly established is nirvana. 7. In the Sutra of Abhidharma it says: 'There are three kinds of dharma: completely afflicted, purified, and belonging to both.' From what consideration was this said? Because the nature of other-power has the nature of the completely imputed, it belongs to the completely afflicted; having the nature of the perfectly established, it belongs to the purified; therefore, other-power belongs to both. Here is an example: if there is gold in the ground, then the element of the earth appears thin, and the earth that is produced is distinguished by three things: color, shape, and the seed of gold. Only the element of earth, one fixates on the earth that is not there, and does not fixate on the gold that is there. Just like this, when touched by fire, the earth does not appear, but the gold appears. When the element of earth appears as earth, it is not its own nature, but appears inverted. When it appears as gold, it appears because it is its own nature. Therefore, the element of earth belongs to both earth and gold. Similarly, on the consciousness of other-power, if it is not touched by the fire of non-conceptual wisdom, then that consciousness also appears as the unreal, completely imputed nature, and does not appear as the real, perfectly established nature. If it is touched by the fire of non-conceptual wisdom, then that consciousness also appears as the real, perfectly established nature, and does not appear as the inverted, completely imputed nature. Thus, the unreal, conceptual, completely imputed consciousness, whatever nature of other-power it is, is either completely purified or both completely imputed and perfectly established.

Belongs to its part, just like the earth element containing gold. The Blessed One sometimes taught that all dharmas are permanent, sometimes that they are impermanent, and sometimes that they are neither permanent nor impermanent. What did he mean by this? Because he considered that the other-dependent nature, the perfectly established dharma, is permanent, the completely imputed dharma is impermanent, and the dharma of both is neither permanent nor impermanent, so he said that. Happiness and suffering are also non-dual, as are virtue and non-virtue, emptiness and non-emptiness, self and non-self, peace and non-peace, existence and non-existence of self-nature, birth and non-birth, cessation and non-cessation, primordial peace and non-peace, intrinsic nirvana and non-nirvana, samsara and nirvana are non-dual, and so on. All the veiled words of the Blessed One should be understood as being based on the three natures, just as the enumeration of categories such as permanence and impermanence is explained. Because they do not exist as they appear, dharmas are not existent; and yet dharmas appear as many. Likewise, the existence and non-existence of dharmas are taught to mean that these two are to some extent non-dual. Sometimes it is said that they are non-existent, and sometimes it is said that they are existent. But the dharma of both is neither existent nor non-existent. Just as self and dharma, or grasper and grasped, appear, but in reality do not exist. Therefore, it is said that they are non-existent. Because they clearly do not exist, yet appear due to the imprints of proliferation. Therefore, it is said that they are existent. Due to the constraint of conditions, there is no own entity and no self-nature, so they have ceased before and do not exist. Although they exist now, they do not abide in their own entity because they are destroyed in an instant, so this is the selflessness common to the Hearers. Just as clinging to permanence or form as real, but they do not exist, this is the view of the Mind-Only school. They consider self-nature to be non-existent. Therefore, since self-nature is non-existent, there is no birth and no cessation, etc. By relying on the latter as the basis for the former, it is established that there is no birth, no cessation, primordial peace, and intrinsic nirvana. That is, by relying on the former as the basis for the former, the latter is explained. Because self-nature is non-existent, there is no birth. Because there is no birth, there is no cessation. Because there is no cessation
