Since it is not established, one contemplates the nature of the completely imputed, and therefore it is also called the perfectly established. How many kinds of distinctions are there in the nature of other-powered? In short, there are two: the other-powered that depends on the cause of the seed of habit, and when discriminated, if the nature of the completely defiled and completely purified is not examined, then what is not established will turn into completely purified, therefore it is the other-powered that depends on both. For the completely imputed, there is also the nature like a vase, merely the universal discrimination of objects such as the eye, and the special universal discrimination of characteristics such as the impermanence of the eye, like a long vase, therefore it is established as two. For the perfectly established, there is also the unchanging perfectly established, the self-nature perfectly accomplished by nature, the self-nature pure or defiled suchness, and the non-inverted perfectly established, the perfectly accomplished by complete purification, the undefiled suchness two. Another way of distinguishing is that universal discrimination is of four kinds: universal discrimination of nature, universal discrimination of characteristics, universal discrimination of those who are proficient in terminology, that is, the wise first speak words and then express their thoughts, and the universal discrimination of those who are not proficient, the unwise, such as cows, etc., but these discriminations cannot be expressed in words. There are also five kinds: relying on name, universally discriminating the nature of the meaning, thinking "the meaning of this name is this"; relying on meaning, universally discriminating the nature of the name, for example, thinking "the name of this thing with a swollen belly is a vase"; relying on name, discriminating the nature of the name, that is, although the name is spoken, the meaning is not understood, so one thinks "what is the name of this?"; relying on meaning, discriminating the nature of the meaning, that is, universally discriminating the meaning of what is not known by name; relying on both name and meaning, discriminating both, that is, thinking "the nature of such a thing, its name is this." If everything is summarized, there are ten kinds of discrimination: the fundamental discrimination, such as the alaya consciousness; the discrimination of characteristics, that is, the recognition of form, etc., and making it a characteristic; the discrimination that appears as a characteristic, that is, the eye consciousness, etc., related to the basis, from which it appears as a characteristic, such as the recognition of cloth; the discrimination that transforms into a characteristic.
