In order to perfect all activities, all limits of the body are manifested. Why do the consciousness of time, etc., arise as mentioned before? Because the continuous cycle of beginningless time, the consciousness of time does not cease, and the realm of sentient beings and the realm of the vessel world, where activities of terminology are carried out mutually, completely grasping the distinctions of self and others, the maturation of karmic results of good and bad destinies, the distinctions of acting according to what is desired or not desired, and the various distinctions of experiencing birth, aging, death, transmigration, and birth, because each of those is immeasurable. How can these consciousnesses abide only in the nature of consciousness and be called "only consciousness"? In short, there are three ways: it ends only in that, thereby showing that there is no external object; if it is expanded upon, it is divided into two, the apprehended aspect and the apprehending aspect, then consciousness is also based on the object as the cause, and because it has the clinging or view of the object. Various dharmas arise simultaneously because they arise in various forms. Thus, all these consciousnesses that appear as one, two, and many are only consciousness, there is no other meaning, it is only consciousness. The objects taken by the five consciousnesses, such as the eye, are based on the object, form, etc., as the cause, and those consciousnesses, from seeing form to seeing touch, have two parts, cause and view, therefore they are the twelve sources. The mind consciousness has all the consciousnesses from the eye, etc., up to dharma as the cause, and the consciousness of mind consciousness has the view of all of those, because mind consciousness is discrimination and is produced by the appearance of all consciousnesses. The meaning of only consciousness, that consciousness is only that, and the eye consciousness, etc., are two and many. Yogis want to realize it. Entering into such only consciousness, if separated from the object, then that mind has no object. It is the place of self-awareness separate from the apprehended and the apprehender. 7. Some Bodhisattvas say that consciousness is the only aggregate of consciousness, and when consciousness arises from the basis of the eye, etc., it obtains the names of eye consciousness, etc., the mind.

It is like thinking that the actions of body and speech are just one. If it is said that what becomes afflicted is called afflicted mind. The answer is: In all supports such as the eyes, consciousness arises, appearing as two in various different ways. What two? That is, it appears as merely things, that is, the object, and as the aspect of holding it, that is, the discriminator. Therefore, it does not have the fault of not discriminating. In the form realm, consciousness dwells on the body. Just as other colored roots outside that realm, such as the eyes, dwell on the body, so in all dwellings, it also appears to hold the touchable. Or by placing equally, the mind becomes heavy, or by cutting off feelings. A Bodhisattva who speaks alone says that emptiness refers to the hollow without a colored body, which dwells inside the body. For the object that is not near, that is, all knowable things, it goes far away and wanders alone, because there is no second. The wild horse that is difficult to tame, because it is difficult to grasp, is controlled by the taming mind. I say that is the true Brahmin, that is, the Buddha. The second sutra also says that the objects of the five senses are experienced by the mind, the mind is the support of these, and the support is established by relying on it, just as it is said. Also quoting the third sutra, when explaining the twelve places, it says that the six aggregates of consciousness are the place of mind, just as it is said. Seventh. Where the consciousness of the basis of all is established, there, all other consciousnesses of the body, etc., are the consciousness of the cause or object of that universal knowledge. The consciousness of the immediately past mind and consciousness, together with the support afflicted mind, should be known as the seeing aspect of the alaya consciousness. Therefore, consciousness becomes the cause, and it itself is the cause of generating the seeing aspect. Just as holding arises from things, when the consciousness of the eyes, etc., appears as things, the consciousness holding it becomes the seeing aspect, and acts as the support for the arising of the root consciousness. Therefore, all these consciousnesses are only abiding in the nature of consciousness. Seventh. If things actually appear, why say they do not exist? The Blessed One to the great Bodhisattva

If one possesses four conditions, one will effortlessly comprehend the meaninglessness of all consciousnesses. The meaning is: First, by understanding the reasons and nature of differing consciousnesses, for example, for the same water, hungry ghosts see pus and blood, animals and humans see water, and gods see nectar, etc. For the same object, each has different perceptions. Second, by focusing on consciousnesses without meaning or object, for example, focusing on the past, future, dreams, and images, etc., because these things that are different from consciousness have no meaning. By understanding that without effort, one can also be without reversal, if one truly realizes things as they appear, beings will be liberated without effort through true seeing. Because if there is an object, the consciousness that focuses on the object will effortlessly know its true nature, and no being will be reversed. Third, by understanding in accordance with the three kinds of consciousnesses, for example, for bodhisattvas, meditators, hearers, solitary realizers, etc., who have gained mastery over their minds, by the power of their own minds' inclinations, the earth appears as gold, water appears as land, etc., objects appear as such. And, for yogis who have attained shamatha-vipassana meditation, who contemplate the Dharma of sutras, mantras, etc., and diligently cultivate vipassana with wisdom, objects appear merely as they are conceptualized with impermanence and other aspects. And, for those who have attained non-conceptual wisdom and abide in it, all objects do not appear; if there were an object, it would not fail to appear. As it is said, the aforementioned is in accordance with the three kinds of consciousnesses. Fourth, through the aforementioned reasons, it is proven that there are no objects other than the mind, and that everything is merely consciousness. Hungry ghosts, animals, humans, and gods, each according to their kind, see the same water as pus and blood, water, something to drink, and nectar, respectively. Like limitless space, the object is the same, but the mind is different. Therefore, it is held that objects are not established by their own nature. The objects of the past and future, as well as dreams and images, also, because there is no object, it is possible to focus on them.
