Dependence is like that. The separate determining factor is the various conditions, such as the conditions of the five paths for the five types of beings. The factor that acts together is the gathering of conditions, such as for consciousness, the senses are intact, the object appears, and there is attention, etc. The inconsistent factor is having obstacles, such as hail for crops. The non-inconsistent factor is not creating obstacles, such as the absence of that which creates obstacles. This is the distinction. How is it in terms of companionship? Which dharmas arise when there is companionship? If any one is incomplete, it is not possible, such as the elements and what is transformed from the elements. How is it in terms of understanding agreement? Which dharmas arise together, and through the agreement of the object, it is understood? If any one is incomplete, it is not possible, such as the mind and mental factors. How is it in terms of increase? Previously virtuous, non-virtuous, and unspecified dharmas, through habituation, increase more and more in the later stages, and arise exceedingly. How is it in terms of interruption? It is like showing the extension of the continuum of nirvana, the continuation of any affliction increases. How is it in terms of complete grasping? It is the complete grasping of the body, the virtuous, non-virtuous, and contaminated dharmas. How is it in terms of immediately preceding? It makes the continuum uninterrupted, without being interrupted by other minds in between, without interval, and the agreement of virtuous mind is virtuous mind, disagreement is non-virtuous, and unspecified, etc. Others are also applied analogously. The immediately preceding of the arising of mind and mental factors is also regarded as the immediately preceding condition. From this mind onwards, until recognizing that one is virtuous, is a commentary. At the end of everything, does everything arise? Is there certainty? There is certainty. If it is said that this will arise after this mind, because there are many, generally speaking, if the way of the arising of mind is spoken of, it should be understood that the arising of mind is through the ten powers in this way. The first is the power of mixing. For example, in meditative absorption, the factors of entering, abiding, and arising, are small because they are not obvious. Medium is not obviously well mixed. Great is well mixed. Small mixing is gradual meditative absorption. Medium is to engage in transcendence in the manner of interrupting one. Great is to engage in transcendence in whatever way is desired or in all ways. After entering, it is conformity and...

To harmonize the discordant. The second is the power of aspiration: one who has attained the second dhyana can enter the first dhyana. If one wishes to arise from the state of the second dhyana, then one manifests the mind; if one wishes otherwise, then one manifests a virtuous mind or an unobscured and unspecified mind, and these two can be combined with others. The third is the power of application: at the end of a virtuous act in the desire realm, first arises the mind of the form realm. At the end of an invincible virtuous act is the actual practice. At the end of the actual practice are the approximations of the second dhyana, etc., up to the peak of existence. The fourth is the power of equipoise: for the mind of pure absorption, sometimes it is the second pure (dhyana), and sometimes it is afflicted. The fifth is the power of projection: when arising from samadhi and walking, as long as one is not disturbed and degenerated by afflictions that are incompatible with it, one continues to follow the mind of the state of equipoise, and the moments of non-equipoise are mixed. The afflictions and associated minds that are incompatible with it should be understood to arise from the four powers of cause, etc. Among them, the sixth is the power of cause: it is the previous accumulation of obscurations that will inevitably lead to degeneration. The seventh is the power of object: it is the appearance of an object with a strong power of impure signs, which is compatible with the arising of attachment, etc. The eighth is the power of memory: it is the conceptual thought of memory, by which I transfer (the mind) to the past object. The ninth is the power of attention: it is the attention of conduct, attending to any impure sign. The tenth is the power of linking: there are nine types of dying minds, namely, those that are associated with craving for the body, each in the three realms: desire realm, form realm, and formless realm. Among them, when dying and transferring from the desire realm, at the time of linking in the desire realm, the mind associated with craving for the body in the desire realm should be understood as the mind of dying and transferring. At the time of birth in the form and formless realms, it should be understood as the mind of dying in the form and formless realms. Similarly, after transferring from the form and formless realms, the mind born in both one's own ground and another's ground should also be so.
