Explanation of various terms in the Abhidharmakosha. Explanation of various terms in the Abhidharmakosha. Explanation of various terms in the Abhidharmakosha. General summary of the Compendium: Starting from the aggregates, how many and why appropriation, etc., the locations of their characteristics, such as order, meaning, and examples of differentiation, and the four such as summarization, summarization is combination, association, and possessing that nature itself. Four types of definite aspects and divisions of grounds. Truth, Dharma, attainment, and accurate discourse are divisions of definite aspects. This is the general summary of what is collected from everything. It is said. How many are the aggregates? How many are the realms? How many are the sources? This shows the number. Why are there only five aggregates, etc.? This shows the certainty of the number. Why is it said that they are the aggregates of appropriation? The meaning is explained by appropriation. Similarly, the characteristics of form, etc. How does the aggregate of form abide? What are the four causes? The result of that, how the forms, etc., abide is explained. Why are the aggregates spoken of in order? That is the order of aggregates, realms, sources, etc. What is the example? Form is like a hailstone, etc. What is the detailed distinction between aggregates, realms, and sources? In summary, substance exists, knowable, form, etc. With outflows arising, etc., past and causes, etc. What is the nature, how many numbers, why is it needed? It is said. How does substance exist? How many substances exist? Why show substance exists? Substance exists is the object of the senses. What does not depend on the expression of the mind? Even if the name is not taken, the senses grasp the meaning itself, and like the dust of form, etc., gathering into a vase, the thought of a vase arises, not depending on the meaning, but the thought arises. Everything is substance, in order to abandon the attachment to the appearance of self as substance. From substance existing Conversely, depending on name and meaning, the expression of the object of the senses, and depending on something other than that, is imputed existence. Everything exists by imputation. In order to abandon the attachment to the appearance of self as imputed, imputed existence is examined. How is it conventionally existent, etc.? The object that becomes the source of all afflictions is conventionally existent. Everything is con

It is false. For self-grasping, manifest clinging is the root of all afflictions. How can it be ultimately truly existent, etc.? The object that becomes completely pure is ultimately truly existent. Everything is ultimately truly existent. In order to abandon manifest clinging to self-grasping, it is the root of complete purification. How can it be known, etc.? The knowable is of five types: form, mind, mental factors, non-associated compositional factors, and unconditioned phenomena. These five bases are explained in the classification of aggregates, etc. Where is form afflicted and purified? Where is mind completely afflicted and purified? By what mental factors are attachment, etc., completely afflicted, and faith, etc., purified? Its state is non-associated, and what is completely purified is unconditioned. In terms of these, everything is knowable. Furthermore, the objects of knowledge are: hearing, the object of knowledge of faith; thinking, the object of knowledge of reasoning; meditation, the object of knowledge of non-distraction; understanding the ultimate truth, the object of knowledge of individual understanding; knowing the nature of others, the object of knowledge of knowing others' minds; dharma knowledge, the object of knowledge of understanding the lower; subsequent knowledge, the object of knowledge of understanding the higher; suffering, the object of knowledge of complete refutation; origin, the object of knowledge of complete dissatisfaction; cessation, the object of knowledge of non-arising; the path, the object of knowledge of understanding; the knowledge of exhaustion and non-arising, the object of knowledge of the ultimate; understanding the Great Vehicle, the object of knowledge of understanding the great meaning. Thus, the objects of the thirteen types of knowledge are also knowable. This is to abandon the manifest clinging to self-grasping as the knower and the seer. How can it be completely understood? How many things should be completely understood? Why should we examine what should be completely understood? The five aggregates of non-conceptual consciousness, the conceptual consciousness, the cause—the alaya-consciousness, entering—consciousness other than that, the cause—sense faculties and objects, arising from the cause—its consciousness, discordant—the three of attachment, etc., the antidote—the three of detachment, etc., and the detailed classification of the subtle seven consciousnesses that are difficult to understand, should also be examined as what should be completely understood.
