I connect those like the sense-sphere of form with the remaining ones, asking about each one individually. For example, does one who possesses the eye sense-sphere also possess the form sense-sphere? Does one who possesses the form sense-sphere also possess the eye sense-sphere? This is asking in connection with the preceding statement. If one asks, "Does one who possesses the eye sense-sphere also possess the ear sense-sphere?" there are also four possibilities here. Up to "Does one possess the mind sense-sphere?" one should connect them as appropriate. "Does one possess the dharma sense-sphere?" This is connected with the preceding statement. Does one who possesses the form sense-sphere also possess the eye sense-sphere? Does one who possesses the eye sense-sphere also possess the form sense-sphere? This is connected with the following statement. Similarly, asking whether one possesses the ear sense-sphere, etc., up to the dharma sense-sphere, is connected with the following statement. Does one who possesses the ear sense-sphere also possess the eye sense-sphere? There are four possibilities here. The two connections with the preceding statement are when one asks starting from certain dharmas, relying on the preceding dharma to make a statement. For example, is whatever is knowledge also the knowable? Is whatever is knowable also knowledge? Asking this is connected with the preceding statement. Whatever is knowledge is also the knowable. There is also the knowable that is not knowledge, which is a dharma other than knowledge. The connection with the following statement is that, similarly, in asking twice, one relies on the latter to make a statement, that is, is whatever is the grasped also the grasper? Is whatever is the grasper also the grasped? This is connected with the following statement. Whatever is the grasper is also the grasped. There is also the grasped that is not the grasper, which is the five objects such as form, and the dharma sense-sphere excluding the associated ones. The second possibility: there is nothing other than those two. The third possibility: there is no fourth possibility other than those three. The fourth possibility is that all four exist. There is no fifth possibility because it starts from two dharmas. If one asks "What?", the answers are: Who? What? By what? Why? From what? Which? Where? How? By how many? These are the eight ways. For example, in the context of explaining the absence of an object of focus, if one asks, "Who does not focus?" the answer is a bodhisattva abiding in the Perfection of Wisdom. What does one not focus on? The answer is the characteristics of the grasped and the grasper. By what method does one not focus?

It is the Perfection of Wisdom. Why meditate on non-observation? It is for the sake of completely protecting all sentient beings and for attaining unsurpassed complete enlightenment. From what cause does non-observation arise? It arises from pleasing the Buddhas, listening to the Dharma, proper attention, and practicing the Dharma in accordance with the Dharma. What is not observed? All dharmas are not observed. Where is it not observed? From the stage of aspiration to the ten bhumis. How many types of non-observation are there? There are eleven types: born and ceased, unborn, manifest, arising from the power of cause, arising from the power of a friend, non-observation of all dharmas, non-observation of emptiness, the self with pride of 'I am,' the self without pride of 'I am,' not accumulating merit, accumulating merit. These non-observations are sequentially combined with the past, future, present, internal, external, coarse, subtle, bad, good, distant, and near, according to the order above. What is indicated by 'what'? Likewise, what is indicated by 'which'? Which is the first case? From which instrumental case? By which agent case? For what dative case? From which ablative case? Of which genitive case? In which locative case? How many kinds of distinctions are not observed, thus combine. Combine with the previous sentence, combine with the following sentence, two clauses, three clauses, four clauses, and answering 'yes, it is so' to what is asked is citing evidence, and answering 'no,' if someone asks, what conditioned truth is included besides the five aggregates? The answer is, there is no conditioned truth besides the five aggregates, this is negation or abandonment. What is the fourth kind of correct questioning that is ascertainment? There are eight kinds, namely: asking correctly by indicating 'what,' what? by what? why? from where? by whom? where? by how many kinds is ascertainment, and for indicating by 'what,' like that, for indicating by 'which,' it is also like that. Again, there are four ways of ascertainment, namely: refuting others who speak wrongly, saying 'this is not so,' establishing and asserting that one's own side speaks correctly, cutting off doubts that arise in others, and ensuring that they do not arise.
