Definition: The definition of impermanence is not abiding for even a moment; the definition of permanence is the continuous and uninterrupted flow from beginningless time; the definition of illness, etc., is old age, sickness, death, etc.; the definition of the various manifestations of mind is arising, abiding, changing, ceasing, distraction and equipoise, pleasure and pain, etc.; the definition of the abundance and decline of enjoyment is prosperity and ruin; the explanation of the kalpas of the destruction of the vessel by fire, water, and wind, and the establishment of what is to be established, is the definition. Sentient beings die and transmigrate from the heavens, etc., due to the exhaustion of life, karma, and merit. The exhaustion of life is the arrival of the time of death. The exhaustion of merit is untimely death, such as the exhaustion of merit by experiencing the taste of meditative absorption, and death even before the time has come. The exhaustion of karma is: the complete exhaustion of the karma to be experienced after being born there, and the karma to be experienced elsewhere for previous times. Why is impermanence called suffering? Because impermanence belongs to both arising and ceasing, and by relying on the impermanence that belongs to arising, one can thoroughly understand the suffering of suffering itself. By relying on the impermanence that belongs to ceasing, one can understand the suffering of change. By relying on what belongs to both, one can thoroughly understand the suffering of conditioning. Considering the impermanence and change of conditioning, whatever is felt is called suffering here. The aggregates, etc., associated with arising and ceasing manifest the eight sufferings of birth, etc., therefore it is called suffering. Although there are eight sufferings, if they are summarized into three sufferings of change, they become six. The definition of emptiness is: that which is without something, that is truly seen as empty of it. What remains here? It is "this is here," and knowing this as it is, this is the true view of entering into emptiness, which is not inverted. Where is there nothing? In the aggregates, elements, and sources, there is no permanent, stable, constant, unchanging nature, nor self or what belongs to self. Therefore, they are empty of them. What remains on top of that? It is the absence of self. Therefore, there is no self, but there is selflessness, and emptiness should be understood in this way. Considering this, the Bhagavan said: existence is truly existence,

Knows thoroughly as it is. Also knows thoroughly as it is that non-existence is non-existent. Thus it is said. Furthermore, there are three aspects of emptiness: emptiness of intrinsic nature, similarly, emptiness of non-existence, and emptiness of self-nature. First, one should observe the apprehended nature of the completely imputed. Second, the nature of other-powered, and third, the nature of thoroughly established should be observed. The characteristic of selflessness is that the aggregates, elements, and sense-sources are devoid of the characteristic of self, by the characteristic of self imputed by those who speak of self. The aggregates and so forth are selfless by the characteristic of self. Considering this, the Buddha said that all phenomena are selfless. Thus it is said. Furthermore, all these are not mine. This is not me. This is not my self, it is just like this. One should observe with correct wisdom, correctly as it is. What is the meaning of this statement? These external objects are not mine. This inner essence is not me. This is not my self, considering this, it was said in this way. Thus, for external objects, the aspect of 'mine' is negated, and for oneself, the aspects of 'self' and 'mine' are negated. The characteristic of an instant is impermanence itself. How is that, as it is said? Just as mind and mental factors are not momentary, so too, its object, form, should be regarded as momentary. If the mind does not grasp the body, or if the body cannot be formed without the mind, if they are not one, the body will decay. If attachment and pleasure change the mind, the body will also change, and the body with the senses is the abode of the mind. All internal and external forms arise from the power of the mind, and because of obtaining the power of the mind, the mind can control form according to its own desire. Thus, since the mind is momentary, the body and form associated with it are also established as momentary. Furthermore, whatever form is ultimately seen to decay, and even from the beginning of its arising, it does not depend on other conditions, but naturally disintegrates on its own, therefore form should also be regarded as momentary. Whatever form there is, all of it is the four great elements, and
