Regarding the method of determining the years. Our teacher, the Buddha Shakyamuni, was born in the Iron Monkey year, and two thousand eight hundred and seventy years have passed since then. Subtract eighty from that, and in the Water Dragon year, during the dark month, the Root Tantra of the Kalachakra was spoken, and on the full moon day of Saga in that year, he passed into nirvana, and two thousand seven hundred and ninety years have passed since then. Subtracting three from this, it is reasonable that the Kalachakra Tantra was taught in the Water Sheep year. Subtracting four, this Wood Monkey year is the year when the Lord of the Gods ascended the throne and Padmasambhava was born. This is the basis for calculating the first year of the reign of the Dharma King of the Lineage Holders. By the Iron Dog year, two thousand seven hundred and eighty-six years had passed since the nirvana. Similarly, the years of nirvana only in terms of the Iron Dog year.
